Looks like they're respecting the traditions of the country being visited. Nothing strange about that.
//Respect the laws of the countries to which they travelled//

Isn't that good?
They're only doing what they expect visitors to La Republique to do.
Going along with local rules.
It is law to wear one in Tehran so why should they not - unless they want to end up in Jail?
If I was Air France cabin crew I would have more concerns about turning into finals on approach to Tehran Airport!!
You have always argued we should not change our laws to suit immigrants but now you seem to be saying the French should ignore Iranian law?

///Air France said that all air crew were "obliged like other foreign visitors to respect the laws of the countries to which they travelled"///

And the problem is?

I lived in Saudi Arabia for 3 years and the rule was that women had to have long sleeved clothes, skirts / trousers to below the knee and a head scarf , there was no problem obeying it. Iran was the same.
When visiting moslem countries the Queen wears a headscarf and removes her shoes on entering a mosque.
I think anotheroldgit was hoping for a thread about how disgusting this rule is etc etc!
It isn't a new rule either, this was in place back in 2008 when Air France suspended flights to Tehran.

that is because you are a man Eddie for chrissakes .... ter-daah

yeah yeah AOG if you obey any islamic fatwa the inevitable consequence is that you will be murdered in your bed. [ by a dark moustachioed muslim ] , we know. after all you have said it enough times - and it is in the DM so it really MUST be true
Why should we not obey and observe the local customs. Just like they acquiesce when they come to enjoy our particular, and ancient ways.

Perhaps he was suggesting it was a good idea, that we ourselves may think about adopting though.

The difference being we have changed some laws to suit the minorities, so why don't they do the same?
AOG

How do you know Iran hasn't?

And I'm not sure why this is such a big deal. The law has always been in place. It's just that flights between the two countries have started again.
The law has always been in place.

It can't have 'always been in place'
-Talbot-

Or...it can.
Obviously not as brilliant at history, as you is with puters, sp.
