Drivel or not it is the explanation of how some folk hold the combination of beliefs that they do. Thou shalt not kill would refer to killing another human for no legitimate reason surely. It would not deny one the right to protect oneself, for example. An eye for an eye was to ensure the tribes did not have permanent feuds. That if a member of a tribe did wrong they should choose to experience the same to balance things and encourage everyone put it in the past before it got out of hand.
Quite! otherwise;

An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.

I wonder if he would have given his victim a stay of murder? Probably not.

Get in an Albert Pierrepoint, now there was a man good at his job.
No, he's been sentenced to death for raping and murdering a 14 year old girl, the sentence should stand ....

Don't try forging £50 notes. You missed out the small hyphens either side.Obvious fake. :-(
sorry wrong thread.. :-)
The utter barbarity of capital punishment is exposed by situations such as this - where people argue the finer points of murder by the state.

It is not possible to murder someone in a 'humane' way, regardless of what the capital punishment approvers may say, but there are obviously degrees of inhumane ways to kill someone - and trying to do it twice is merely one of them.

This man should have received a life term, and be serving it now - not dangling in front of a morally corrupt state while they are argue the legitimacy of trying to murder him all over again.

divebuddy - // ... but the act itself is not cruel - it's humane. //

I think we will have to agree to disagree there - I can't think that killing another human being, however it is done, is 'humane'. The dictionary definition talks of 'compassion' - not really feeling that when you are shoving lethal drugs into someone with the express intention of killing them.

divebuddy - //Andy. You know perfectly well that in this instance "humane" refers to being painless. Like when animals are humanely put down, or if you prefer, put to sleep. //

Indeed I do know that - but there is ample documentary evidence on file to confirm that the process is not 'painless' at all - quite the opposite!

divebuddy - //^^^^ Albert Pierrepoint never had any complaints. //

I am unsure of the relevance of that observation - ?

Albert Pierrepoint was a hangman - he never botched an execution in his long career.

There is no comparison with the extended pantomime of lethal injections and the twelve seconds from cell entry to 'drop' that Pierrepoint perfected.

ra[ey deffo - I cant beieve the American Army was prejudiced here in any way during the War. Red Army yes - they raped their way thro Berlin 1945 but um werent here...
Apparently he cried and screamed as they attempted to find a vein.
I'm guessing his 14 year old victim did the same as she was raped and fought in vain for her life.
Let them have as man goes as they require IMHO....
I'm 100% against the death penalty but if the USA must do it why the hell don't they just ask for volunteers for a firing squad ! They would be overwhelmed by demand and it would not cost anything. The volunteers would bring their own guns and buy their own bullets. You could even sell places on the firing squad to the highest bidder!
