It appears that our culture of accepting arrest for drink-driving as an occupational hazard is not disappearing as quickly as we might hope.

My views on drink driving are very simple - zero tolerance, lifetime ban.

Any thoughts?

I see we cant criticise AH the mod on here...he can clog up the whole board and theres nothing can be said about it...

conflict of interest...hahaha
I think A H has said many times that, while he is the oldest inhabitant, he is NOT a mod.
"Two wrongs don't make a right. "

who said they do ?...totally pointless thing to say...you have obviously failed to grasp a basic poiunt/question

“…it would be interesting to hear the views of someone who has lost a loved one through a drunk driver.”

People suffering such tragedies are not best placed to determine sentencing, viv. A number of people lose loved ones due to speeding motorists. A lifetime ban or doing 35 in a 30? Some lose cyclist loved ones, victims of lorries turning left whilst they were up their inside. A lifetime ban?

Don’t get me wrong, I have no whatsoever for drink drivers. They deserve all they get in accordance with the law. But sentences need to be proportionate to the crime.
Divebuddy I'm not the one with the problem it seems!

islay, I see you're relatively new here. It might be wise to reserve judgement for a while.
I think Islay isn't far off.
there's a lot of hysteria over DD but far more dangerous is phoning and texting whilst driving.
You are not going to be 'over the limit' for having 2 glasses of wine the previous evening. Of course this has to be 'normal' size wine glasses 125ml.
There is a lot of rubbish being talked here.
But driving 'the morning after' is a problem, the difficulty is knowing how long it takes for your body to get rid of alcohol. There is no easy rule as it depends on the individual.
Quite so, Eddie. And getting it wrong does not warrant a lifetime ban.
Yes NJ, I got a 1 year ban back in 1998 for having a blood alcohol level of 36 micro g /litre against the limit of 35. Even the officer who charged me said it was the least over the limit he had ever seen.
Good job they did not catch me back in the 1970 s ,when I used to drive so pi***d I had to drive with one eye closed so that I could only see one road!
*** hard trying to decide which road to drive down when you can see two of them.

woofgang - //I think A H has said many times that, while he is the oldest inhabitant, he is NOT a mod. //

I am a Moderator - I was 'outed' against my wishes, but what is done is done - I have never denied it.

divebuddy - //woofgang. have you been living in a cave. (lol) He mentions that he is a mod on an hourly basis. or so it seems.//

I don't mention it at all, unless the subject is raised, and then reluctantly, and usually in defence of accusations of unfair activity.
Lol
