the same expenses would be incurred if a Tory speaker used the car, or even if he didn't. I can't see a story in this anywhere. Cars and trained drivers are avalable round the clock to cover official business and to avert terror attacks, and so they should be.

Bercow's worth his weight in gold, if for no reason other than the fact that he constantly annoys right-wingers in Parliament and here on AnswerBank. In addition, he's still Speaker despite the Tories' tawdry effort to sideline him a couple of months ago.
