What will happen Naomi, is that the people traffickers will continue to pack 100,000's into boats and send them on their way.
We need to stop these people wanting and needing to emigrate in the first place, and a major cause of this recent huge increase in boat people, is the complete breakdown in countries like Syria, and other parts of North Africa.
And that situation can only be changed by international action. Its not going to go away, just because we turn our backs on it.

Stuey...while most of the boat people are from North Africa, many are from sub-Saharan Africa, so the UN has got to be involved as well as the EU.
But blockading the North African coast isn't going to cure this problem. Boat people from Africa have been arriving on the shores of the Canary Islands for many years, long before the present crisis with ISIS. Its a thorny problem that some on here think will go away, if they ignore it for long enough.

I believe that the current invasion represents one of the gravest threats to the long term prosperity and stability of Europe. The difficulty is that efforts are being concentrated on plucking these people from the drink and ferrying them to their chosen destination. This is not sustainable and the time to demonstrate that this will not continue is now. There are plenty of strategies available to show thatEurope will not tolerate this situation and they need to be adopted immediately.

1st Point .
I suggested that we enter Libya and smash all boats and means to ferry immigrants across the Med.
This was met with almost a snort of derision by you .What send in the Gun boats.Are you serious. Is this tongue in cheek ? etc. I offered a solution to save lives. You can't and seem to believe my proposition is unworkable.
If you cannot come up with a solution then by inference you give the impression that the people smugglers cannot be stopped and can continue as they wish. Well they can quite easily be stopped if there is the will to do it. By smashing these boats you stop the seaborn invasion but you seem to ridicule that idea so I assume that you are happy for the current situation to continue and these people smugglers send these immigrants to their death.

You are implying that these people are fleeing the trouble in Syria and therefore are worthy of being sent to sea in dangerous vessels by the humane and benevolent smugglers. i.e. providing them a service
What tosh. If you have watched the Youtube clip it will be noted that all those immigrants who were interviewed were from Sierra Leone,Ivory coast,Cameroons. Hardly great trouble spots in the current scale of World Affairs. They were economic immigrants who wanted more money and become famous footballers and I had to laugh. One wanted his human rights.What rights do you suggest that will be Mikey if he hits the shore of Dover and thousands more like him?

For the record, I have never supported the criminal elements that send these boat people over the Med to Europe. I have challenged you to find that I have, in any post that I have made today, or any other day, when we have been debating this issue, but you have failed. So.... we must assume that if you were to have found any such evidence. you would have produced it.
The very fact that you haven't, proves one of the following...either I have, but you can't find it, or I haven't, because no evidence exists. I will leave others to decide which is the truth.
