For 18 months you expressed some concern about a large influx of immigrants from Romania & Bulgaria much to the mirth of some ABers. In view of this week's figures that 187,000 have indeed flooded in from those 2 countries in 12 months, are you happy that you were proved right and 'the usual suspects' have a great deal of egg on their faces. Or does it just deepen your original concerns.

There does seem to be a multitude of self-loathing anti-Brits on this site!

The ONS link provided by Mush States 'It is important to note that people are not necessarily allocated a NINo during the same quarter in which they immigrate to the UK' which is what Gromit is saying.

Yay, I got a hundred answers. Beats my previous average of 0.
:)
No surge of Romanians. No flood of Bulgarians. Not swamped either.

It was all scaremongering, and you fell for it.
Question Author
You're all boring me now. Do you think I imagined for a nanosecond that 1 of you would admit you got it wrong.
This thread was for the 'amusement' of pragmatic people.
I never expected to pull ostrich necks from the sand.
Anyway, I didn't think you were such a bit AOG fan

Well done for rescuing that, Zacs. It was removed before I could click on it. ;D
It was one of your first ever posts as Svejk.

//Am I among 'the usual suspects'? //

Also unanswered

I asked three questions but you're fixated on the BBC bit. Being a 'usual suspect' is about what I say on AB, which is what I'm asking about.

ps, yes *I* saw the 'if' but would anyone else bother to notice that rather than the body of the accusation?

It is worth reminding ourselves of why AOG, Svejk, Tora et al were wrong on this one, Classic Daily Mail circa 2012...

// // 30 Million Bulgarians and Romanians are set to gain unrestricted access to UK as EU regulations are lifted

Experts warn of a 'significant spike' when limitations imposed by the EU are lifted at the end of next year

Numbers expected to be higher than when restriction was lifted for Poland in 2004. //

Hypno, I'm sure most ABers would read and understand an 'if' at the start of a question/statement.
As to the other 2 questions you keep demanding answers to, you'll have to look within your own heart. Or, alternatively google Romania/Answerbank and see were you one of the people pouring scorn on your fellow man.
I don't think of you as 'one of the usual suspects' myself. (although I do worry about at times)
Question Author
If you want to know what 'a usual suspect' is and how they operate, see the post above^ mine.
Well, Svjenk (you can have a letter other than 'n' as the typo, if you prefer) the DM use "are set to" in a similar manner to the way you deployed your 'if'. And then they use "30 million", presumably the entire population of one or both countries, combined.

It's factually correct that they all have the *right* to move where they please, around the EU but skirts around the fact that all but a certain age group would be too set in their ways, or too attached to their rellies to up sticks and come here.

So, that leaves the two questions the very existence of the DM poses: does its journos and editor *think* their readers are stupid and/or timid enough to be scared by a headline like that or are they -actually- as stupid and/timid as that?

I fully admit that the actual truth "residents of two countries now have rights to work wherever they please" is dreadfully dull and doesn't shift newspapers but whose fault is that?

Which is the tail and which is the dog?
"Even if we accept the Gov. figures that c60,000 were stealing and working on the fiddle before 2014, that steal leaves 120,000 that turned up and still means you lot owe OAG an apology for ridiculing him last year.(which was the point of the thread)
Incidentally, (lefty) not everything can be measured in L.s.d. "

SVEJK, the ONS have experts collating their figures and conducting surveys whereas your statement is based on complete and utter claptrap. Guess which one I believe?
You have urged us twice to Google Romania / Answerbank, so I did.

https://www.google.co.uk/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=HXPzVJSSBZHj8wfdyYIQ&gws_rd=ssl#q=romania+%2B+Answerbank

I am pleased to say I am in the clear, nothing bad from me. Funnily enough, I cannot find any scorn from anyone else either.

I don't regard 15,000 as a surge or a spike, especially when we were told it could be 30 million.
here's a different angle on it.
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/nov/18/labour-clamp-down-in-work-tax-credits-eu-migrants

the figures in this article relate to tax credit entitlement paid to those in work, and highlights the fact that many incomers are low income-low skill, and despite doing those jobs we know no-one else wants, they are still a net drain on the economy. not only do they need topping up by the government, but a proportion of their disposable spending power gets sent home, so they effectively don't put anything back.

clearly they're doing better here than they would "at home", and all power to them for seeking to self-better themselves. but how anyone can think this is great for the economy is beyond my comprehension.

And can you find in that anything that was not true? It was merely a forecast of what could happen.

But it is true that we have seen a 'flood' of Bulgarians and Romanians come into this country.
Im new to this crazy site. Are you all mad on here?

I can't speak for everyone but I'm pretty angry, yeah.
Just to me there seems to be British posters and non-British posters on this site and all or none seems to know what they are talking about.
