According to the Pope, they are:

I know two couples who have elected not to have kids, not out of selfishness - they just don't have any paternal/maternal feelings.

Do you agree with Pope Frankie?

Some interesting points being made by everyone here (not so much the Muslim/illegal immigrant segue, which indeed heralds the neighing sound of a certain hobby horse).

I myself have noticed something that andy_hughes mentioned...several colleagues at work have got married over the past decade, and the question of children is rarely if ever raised.

I wonder if this is a product of the fact that marriage is becoming less 'mandatory' for the production of offspring?

Gness...I'm an Atheist.

Things have changed now. The RS teacher in my sons Catholic school is also an Atheist.

Could you imagine that happening years ago!

Things have changed, Ummmm...here and in Ireland but there are countries.... often the very poorest countries.... where the word of the Pope is the word of God....and followed to the letter.....countries where children who can't be fed or cared for properly will be born....because the Catholic Church says so......and I cannot understand that...I really can't.

Fender....The Vatican could feed the world....if it chose to do so....

NO, & can I say sp I love your new avatar, so cute.
Ron.
It probably is a selfish decision, just as choosing to have children is. And that's how it should be.
European people have declined from 33% of the world's population to 5% in the last 50 years(so I keep reading)
Interesting that the same people, on here, who scoff at the (infallible)Pope tend to agree with our support of the African/Indian sub-continent population explosion. Most of those countries have quadrupled, at least, their populations in the same 50 years.
So is the Pope being selfish by not having children?
If you saw the cartoon Ron you might find him less cute ;-)
5%

link please (I find that hard to believe.
Jeez, that will please the benefit culture - lol
(so I keep reading) Talbot. I've no intention of researching it for you.
Well try around 10% then, svejk.
if you like, it's still an eye-opening statistic, don't you think?

Well the statistic from 50 years ago may not be true just like the one for the current population.
