I wasn't being sarcastic Andy I only queried what you said because you had made a spelling error "Another racist 'WHILE' police cover-up". and didn't want to put words into your mouth.

/// The problem is, with the history of unequal treatment meted out to African Americans for the last sixty years by the powers of the state, their emotional reaction tends to run along seriously well-worn lines. ///

Other groups have been persecuted and ill treated back in history, ie Jews, Christians etc, but these have learnt to put it in their past, why there are even laws specially brought out to protect them in this present age, and even the Americans who you seem to be criticising have a black President.

Sincere apologies AOG, I didn't spot that - thanks for your consideration.

"Other groups have been persecuted and ill treated back in history, ie Jews, Christians etc, but these have learnt to put it in their past, why there are even laws specially brought out to protect them in this present age, ..."

You make a fair point.

However, there appears to be a different reaction built into the African-American psyche that means they are unwilling or unable to accept what has gone on - probably because to a far greater degree that the parallel persecutions you mention - it still goes on, flagrently, and openly.

It is a desparate situatipn, and not one that is likely to be resolved in the near future.
Talbot - "I could possibly empathise if the poor little mites were on their way to Sunday school, gromit."

Fortunately, the decision whether or not to fire on potential killers is determined by their actions alone, not their location, or perceived destination - and we should all be grateful for that.
Here is another example, note that the victim is handcuffed and suppressed when the officer shoots him through the head.

Fairly graphic video.

/// I will ask you the same question when someone would shoot your 12 years old son when he is holding a toy gun and then when after that you would not accept a "lawful decision". ///

I don't think it was a 'Toy Gun' in the true sense of the meaning, I believe it was a ball pellet gun, and if you have seen one of these they are almost an exact replica of a real gun, would you care to get close enough so as to see the difference?

/// Randy. And your point is ? ///

/// The officer was charged and convicted for this "offence". ///

And where are your video clips of the pursuing riots and looting, Randy?
This appears to me to be nothing more than the tragic consequence of someone when caught with their hand in the cookie jar refusing to face the music.
Your cookie jar / music interface is an interesting mix of metaphors.
"offence" being the murder of a person, who was suppressed and hang cuffed and unarmed and apparently just sitting in a train station.

Here you go AOG, for balance here is a video of a policeman with an assault rifle threatening to kill a journalist during the rioting.

Been gone for a little bit, Ab Editor... exactly what would you have had the policeman do? He'd been attacked in his car by a huge individual intent on siezing his service firearm, committing a crime in doing so. Said assailant then leaves the car only to turn around and charge the officer yet again.

The officer's training would have kicked in and his actions accurately demonstrate the training as well as self-preservation. Where's the murder?
He of course had NO choice but to follow and shoot Michael Brown a further 5 times, no choice at all.

Randy... follow and shoot? The assailant had just commited a serious felony... assault of a police officer... what do you suggest that the officer do? He could of course, violate his oath to preserve the peace and protect the citizens or he could attempt to apprehend the felon. Seems reasonable to me.

By the way, forensic evidence indicates that the perpetrator was shot 5 times. One of the shots caused two entrance/exit wounds, further supporting the adrenalin rush this guy must have been undergoing when he charged the lone officer.
^^^ four times...
I suggest that the officer shoot him a further 5 times, it seems the only possible thing to do.

This is of course what would happen in every other country in the world.
Hi Clanad, I'm not sure that account is accepted as absolute truth?

The wiki article Baldric mentioned earlier doesn't paint it so clearly:

"A struggle took place between Brown and Wilson through the window of the police SUV, a Chevrolet Tahoe.[29] Wilson's gun was fired twice during the struggle, with one bullet hitting Brown's arm while it was inside the vehicle.[29] Brown and Johnson fled and Johnson hid behind a car.[30] Wilson got out of the vehicle and pursued Brown. At some point, Wilson fired his gun again, with at least six shots striking Brown in the front,[14] fatally wounding him. Brown was unarmed.[29][31]"

Maybe wiki has a liberal bias (likely)?

Is there a definitive account?

Forgive me - but Jews are certainly still mistreated, and anti-semitism is certainly not a thing of the past.

Learning to "put things in the past" is a laudable attitude and one that many African Americans have done. This is why when you look at American industry, the judiciary, commerce, the tech world finance etc - you will see an encouragingly large number of talented black people entering the middle classes.

However, this does not mean that everything is now 'hunk dory'. There are still pockets of extreme racism in the South.

If black Americans are to 'put things behind them', then surely the same has to be said of White America?
Oh and Christian persecution?

Are you comparing the persecution of Christians from biblical times to the persecution of black people which resulted in lynching which is still within living memory?

Extraordinary.

Have a listen to this song, and ask yourself how both black and white America can 'put this behind them'. Media URL: http://youtu.be/h4ZyuULy9zs
