The first female Muslim Cabinet member resigns over daves Gaza policy. Brave woman as far as I am concerned. Lets hope more people protest and this government starts to pull its finger out over the Israeli policy of killing 1000's of innocent Gaza citizens.

Netanyahu has long passed the point of avenging the deaths of the three Israeli schoolboys. Enough already.

// And where is the voice in Gaza of opposition to Hamas? // Hamas fairly won free elections in Gaza but Israel did not recognise the fact. Fatah won the elections in the West Bank and Israel recognised that Government. So the Palestinians became 2 States, one in Gaza supporting Hamas, one in the West Bank supporting Fatah. That suited the israelis, the...

I suppose mikey will say Hiroshima and Nagasaki was unproportional. It stopped the war with Japan in it's tracks and saved thousands of allied lives should a ground attack on Japan been attempted. The difference is that the Emperor of Japan threw in the towel because he had more respect and concern for the people of Japan.Hamas won't throw in the towel because they don't give a fig about their own.Life is cheap to them and deaths make good propaganda for their terrorist cause.

AOG...your re-posted link is working fine for me ...perhaps there was a problem with my OP. Lets try again ::

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-28656874

you had a ./ at the end before
There's still a . now
No Palestine does'nt possess, thank God,tanks,an airforce etc.Why are so stupid to antagonize a superior force who do.Complete disregard for their own people.Hammas use their own as cannon fodder. No rockets in Israel. No retaliation. Not that hard to understand
Question Author
Thanks AOG...I can see my mistake now. Its one that I have made before, so I must be more careful in the future !
Question Author
Retro...is your space bar working ?
Mikey4444: I was talking about the nonsense of 'proportionality".
Yes. I believe so.
Question Author
The doesn't appear to be a space between your sentences retro...it makes them easier to scan and read if a space is left, thats all !
Question Author
Scooping...you used the analogy of D-Day, not me. I was merely pointing out that the analogy was irrelevant, that all.
Last time I looked Israel was a parliamentary democracy, Gaza in the grip of terrorists Hamas and Hezbollah.
Mikey, I don't see why Scooping's analogy is irrelevant. I think he has a point. War isn't played by the gentleman's rules of the cricket club.
Question Author
I am not, I repeat, not a supporter of Hamas, but as Israel is a democracy, does this give it the right to commit atrocities on innocent children in Gaza ?

As a democratic nation, shouldn't they be behaving in a civilised fashion, rather than as a practitioner of war crimes ?

How many more 1000's of Palestinian people will Israel need to kill before you and others start to condemn Netanyahu ?
Question Author
Naomi...scooping's analogy of D-day was entirely irrelevant to the situation in Gaza today, and it certainly has added nothing to the debate, apart taking it off on a unnecessary tangent.

Now I must go to work !
No mikey. How many more Palestinian people will Hamas kill before people stop criticizing Israel. It is Hamas alone that can put an end to this.Just stop firing the rockets, but they don't want to stop do they regardless of the whirlwind they are reaping on the Palestinians?
Suppose some of you guys wished that Israel's defensive shield didn't work and that Israeli babies were killed as well. How's about condemning the 3,000 missiles lobbed at Israel in a totally undiscriminating way.
Mikey, Scooping's analogy is entirely relevant to a discussion about war, which is what we’re discussing. That said, there’s no doubt that the Palestinians have been treated appallingly. However, Hamas, continues its bombardment knowing that it will be met with retaliation, knowing that its own people will suffer the consequences of its actions, and if it has any sense at all, knowing that it can't win, so you must consider both sides of the argument. What is the solution?
"Should we have assessed German strength in Normandy before we launched D-Day? Should half of the Allied troops who liberated Sicily have been held back because of the relative weakness of Axis forces on the island."

1) We did assess the German strength to the best of our ability.

2) The battles you describe were between trained armies on a field of battle that were, roughly speaking, about as well equipped as each other. Whatever differences there were in equipment quality pales in comparison to the difference between a professional army versus defenceless schools or hospitals.

3) The adversary we were fighting had caused immense destruction in the UK and obliterated vast swathes of Europe. Hamas is a small terrorist group with electoral support

World War 2 does not offer us any guiding morals in this case. We have to think that through for ourselves. Israel is murdering children. The people responsible for that, ultimately, are the people who pull the trigger or push the button or whatever.
Krom, on which side?
