If it was a Tory councillor or aUKIP represntative we sually see posts with gusto about how disgraceful to supposed 'misuse' of the R-word. Even when they are using it technically correct.

So can I assume it is ok for her to use it?

Ah, so you are using the post to get at UKIP yourself then Jack!

I simply gave two examples.
Not everyone who has a job in the public eye has 'courted the press' to get it. It's a job she does and does extremely well. She is allowed a private life as well as anyone else who works for a living.

Whilst a level of media involvement is of course necessary for her job, she shouldn't have to sacrifice her private and family life.

All publicity is good publicity ?
She's an actress so I assume she wants to be judged on her acting.
But you chose to conflate the actresses comments and politics......like I said, it didn't really work.
Whilst it may have been an unfortunate turn of phrase to use, I don't see how an actress 'resigning' would change the way language is used or help rape victims.

A dear friend used the very same phrase when telling me she had been burgled, she noticed my expression and said - "It was like being laid bare, exposed and powerless."
in truth she did misuse the word 'rape'. .

Are you referring to Austin Mitchell's use of the word re Pfizer/Astrazenica?

I think both were right in their use of the word.

I agree with the majority on this.

It seems to be a slightly ill-judged question.

Actresses and politicians have different protocols for interviews.

I don't see how the two could possibly be conflated.
Are we to assume she's been raped at some point then? Otherwise how could she make such a comparison?

Perhaps she was speaking metaphorically?

In the same way that you don't have to experience everything to use similies...

"So Where Are The Post Clamouring For Her Resignation?"

She's an actress, so what exactly would she be resigning from?

Her current role?

What if she is only part way through a film? Are you saying that she should leave the production, perhaps be replaced by Reese Witherspoon?

Would that not be more of a punishment on the film-going publc than Ms Theron?
I agree joeluke.
I disagree, how many people have for instance been...

"Hit by a ton of bricks"

or

"Run over by a steamroller"

We use comparisons all the time.
I'm sure women who actually HAVE been raped will empathise with Ms Theron

Press intrusion comes with the territory when you are such a high profile celebrity, I'm sure she has more than enough money to employ security measures to minimise the effects of it.

She needs to wake up, smell the coffee and realise how fortunate she is to be leading the life she is
Your question seems confused ymb

/If it was a Tory councillor or aUKIP represntative we sually see posts with gusto about how disgraceful/

the most recent 'clamour' for resignation (incorrectly IMO) was aimed to Austin Mitchell

He's a Labour politician isn't he?
/aimed at/

sorry
While Theron's statement is rather stupid, this is in turn is a rather stupid thread. She is not even in a position to "resign" from, and she has no bearing whatsoever on British politics.

If this really is the basis that UKIP supporters have for pretending to be victimised by the press or accusing people of "double standards" then... well, that would explain a lot, actually.
