Yes - alcohol causes more hospital admissions than smoking and drugs put together. That doesn't mean smoking (passive or not) is safe. It is a combination of factors and you don't need 100% dying from passive smoking to prove it can be dangerous.

i didn't do well with the Izal comb thingy as i couldn't stand the smell of the paper, i hated to touch the stuff, needs must and all that - but glad we have decent alternatives now.

Dr Filth, going OT, Prof Davie is an idiot. Cell mutation is a part of the function of the body. If cells couldn't mutate, the species couldn't evolve. I remember being told once that research had been done on the bodies of old people who had died from other causes than cancer with no cancer having been diagnosed. A significant percentage (can't remember the figure, will try and find it) of those people had an undiagnosed cancer somewhere in their bodies. The thing with smoking is that it puts stuff in the lungs that shouldn't be there and that the lungs have no defence for. The irritation causes mutation of a nasty kind.

My friend's 5-yr-old daughter died from brain tumours (neoroblastoma, i think) and they were told she was probably born with it.

My niece died at 8 years old with the same thing, pixie, my brother and sil were told that she was born with it.

Oh. So sorry, tony. It's awful, isn't it. The optician discovered blood clots behind her eyes. She was given 3 months- potentially up to a year with intensive operations and chemo, which her parents didn't want to put her through. She died 10 weeks later.

its shocking because its still relatively rare, they have better treatment now and many survive having illnesses like leukaemia, so more needs to be done to help those through these awful cancers

My niece had three brain ops, didn't save her though I couldn't really say if it prolonged her life.
