/// He and his clients have chosen their moment well. The global triumph of the movie 12 Years A Slave has thrust the sufferings of millions of Africans to the forefront of public attention, awakening many consciences about the crimes committed in the name of European and American civilisation. ///

Why should this country or any other country for that matter pay out compensation for something that happened hundreds of years ago?

/// Slavery was an unspeakably evil commerce. But many societies across the world — the ‘Land of the Free’ foremost among them — were in it up to their necks, as were a host of African tribal chieftains and Arab traders. ///

/// Britain is today at the top of the Caribbean nations’ hit-list chiefly because our government and judges are thought to be the softest touch on earth, as indeed they are. ///

/// But thanks for raising the subject of slavery once again. I think most people are happy to let it lie...but if you feel the need to bring it up, again and again, then more power to you. ///

It does not need me to raise the subject of slavery, it is thrust to our attention by some at every opportunity.

/// I can't understand why you cannot see when you've posted something idiotic. ///

I can't see why you do it all the time.

The trouble with you you cannot take criticism if it is regarding colour or sexuality, and on these two subjects you have a huge bias and it shows.
AOG

"It does not need me to raise the subject of slavery, it is thrust to our attention by some at every opportunity."

Yeah...funny how some people can get obsessed eh:

Do you think it's fair to say that you may have an unnaturally high chip to shoulder interface ratio?
AOG

Stop trying to dodge the question. In what way did 12 Years A Slave set off this claim for reparation.

If you can't answer, I will not dig any further, and we can debate the ridiculous reparation claim.

However, if you continue to squirm and try to make out that I'm not intelligent to call you on something foolish you have posted, I will continue.

Now...the choice is yours.

You can either explain the causal link.

You can say drop it

Or you can move the debate on.

Or you can go silent.

I think I know which one you will choose.

"Either way it doesn't really matter though does it. AOG's iffy wording gave you a great chance to jump all over it. for which I expect you were very grateful."

Oh God yeah.

For me, it's better than an evening at vaudeville.

But as an aside - Samuel L Jackson was magnificent in Django and the fact that he was ignored during awards season was a bigger crime than slavery itself.*

(*That's probably an overstatement).
Option 3 please :)
oops I meant option 2

Bet he doesn't.

Go on...a quid to your favourite charity.

Coz I'm generous like that.

"Go on...a quid to your favourite charity."

I'm up for that SP lol
Think I might watch it again actually...not normally a fan of Tarantino (with the exception of Inglorious Basterds and Jackie Brown), but I quite liked Djan...

...oops...

Sorry AOG. Hijacked your thread and turned it into an episode of Film 2014.

As you were.
"Yeah...funny how some people can get obsessed eh: "

says the person who has so much time in his busy little schedule he can go searching for past posts. !

hilarious

"and on these two subjects you have a huge bias and it shows. "

huge doesnt even begin to cover it.....
Question, baz: Is the the sort of Britain that you'd like to see us return to?
The tragedy is that aog hasn't got the ability to understand the stupidity of his own posts or the validity of other people's criticisms

/Example could be this "Now see what Crufts has set off" referring to say a story how some professional breeders are changing certain breeds to the detriment of the dog itself, so as make them more show worthy,

This then would not be a direct criticism of Crufts, but one aimed at the actions of some professional breeders. /

So aog was claiming that the film led to people setting off on misguided claims for compensation.

As has been pointed out several times already; that is nonsense as the claims predate the film

and Max Hastings (the author of aog's supporting link) was suggesting response to the film might affect response to the claims not that it is causing the claims.

How hard is that to understand?
/busy little schedule/

I wonder if baz is vertically challenged.

He seems fixated on size as he frequently resorts to using the word 'little' as an attempt to insult other ABers.

Just wondering....

"Foot Fetish"? I must admit I have never noticed that in my recollection of the Tarantino movies. Going to have to watch them all again now ;)

baz

It's really easy.

All you have to do is enter 'slavery' into AB's search box, and hit enter.

Took me about ten seconds.

Not long at all in my book.
