Will this stop Scotland holding us over a barrel (pun intended) if they gain their independence?

I don't know the answer, but it's supposed to be pretty good stuff apparently.
Because whisky has only recently (since the war) been seen as a sophisticated drink and it fell out of favour whereas in Scotland it was very much a tradition and the distilleries (some of them) survived. Visited the St. George's distillery a few years ago before any of the spirit they had was allowed to be called whisky but you could taste that they had something going on, won't really be able to assess it until they've got some 15yr olds and the like.
It looks like di still do lol :)
Maybe, when the Scots were sticking with whisky, gin became the choice of all classes and we also had access to cheap rum from the colonies.
i agree with seadogg this country is unique with having so many hedgrows to divide the land which are full of blackthorns

they still collect blackthorn berries today to make sloe gin
The Fiat 500 is a car, as is the Lamborghini Aventador; St George's single malt is a whisky, as is Laphroaig 18-year old.
Quick change of subject

Thanks for that, but I once enjoyed listening to their later night chat shows on my small DAB radio, so it would be a trifle awkward to situate my computer on my bed side table

Ok, aog, 'twas just a thought.
English whisky? Haud me back!!
Pretty much what I meant with my post at 11.57, Wharton!
Sorry Quizmonster, I didn't notice your earlier post - LOL :-)
This ties in well with my new project to start an English haggis farming operation. I know they're only hunted in the wild up north, but I think I could breed them in captivity. It worked for Salmon.
Good luck with that enterprise, Ludwig. I've often thought of starting a chain of porridge, cockaleekie, Cullen skink and Aberdeen rowie restaurants in India. Just can't seem to excite the necessary capital investors, though.
