Would one of the animal charities, like the Assissi Animal Sanctuary here in NI, take it if it came with a fair sized cash donation?
The RSPCA, who eventually put dogs down if they're not rehomed, isn't an option.

sandy. is it your dog ?
There is a forum called dogpages which does a lot of rescue stuff and you can list dogs for private rehoming

No. It belongs to an old neighbour who's going into care. I can't take it because it doesn't get on with my dog.
Dogs Trust say they never put a healthy animal down. I know they have regional shelters, so they might be worth talking to as well
In those circumstances I can't see an animal sanctuary refusing.
poor thing..........do you have '' the dogs trust'' in your area, thhey never ''put down'' a healthy dog.
Question Author
There is a Dogs Trust here about 30 miles away. We'll find something for it.
i hope you do sandy.
If you ring the local paper they will know of any animal rescue centres in the area.
They may even be willing to do an article to help you find a home for the dog.X
Good luck.
The smaller animal rescues are usually very helpful, and don't generally put animals down. I would never ever go to the RSPCA. X
sandy, have you thought of posting the details in your local area, eg. churches. shops. cafe.vets.hairdressers ?
What sort of dog is it? If its is a purebred then there are breed specific rescues who will take it. If its is a non purebred then you could try these people: http://www.7thheaven.org.uk/
Rescue charities wouldn't usually ask for donation for taking in an animal, although it's always welcome.

Dogs Trust has a rescue centre in Ballymena, if that's accessible.

It's a mongrel. The owners son will be calling later today and I'll mention the place in Ballymena
As far as i know sandy,Assissi would do anything rather than put an animal down. They would be pleased to have donations of food, blankets litter etc just as much as money. It's why a woman I know, donates to them and not RSPCA. Good luck
Sandy, Assissi will be very helpful - are you still in Belfast?

Is it a large mongrel - good with other dogs? etc I could ask around if you want xx
Question Author
Thanks for all the helpful replies. I'll see the son later today and report back.
sandy there is another trust between belfast and Bangor and also Carrickfergus - you could google Dog's Trust - you will help info there.
How refreshing to hear a dog called a mongrel! Makes a change from all the stupid designer names they are given - just been browsing the Pets4Homes ads online and there are more Cockapoos, Labradoodles, Jugs, Jackawowas etc than any purebreds, and no mongrels!
You could try The Cinnamon Trust, haven't got their address at the moment, but they're based in Hayle, Cornwall. They specialise in helping elderly and infirm people with their pets, rehoming, fostering and walking. I'm sure they'd help.
mongrels...................now called crossbreads, i hate the snobbery re pedigree dogs..
