Would one of the animal charities, like the Assissi Animal Sanctuary here in NI, take it if it came with a fair sized cash donation?
The RSPCA, who eventually put dogs down if they're not rehomed, isn't an option.

I like the word mongrel, trouble is it is a covers everything word- it could be my Dad's old wolfhound cross or my sister's chihuahaua cross poodle. I don't like designer names for mongrels but at least you have an idea what a cocakpoo is or a labradoodle, and it does rather underline the fact that a dog is a dog whatever it's called whatever the Kennel Club may say.
hi sandy-mid antrim animal sanctuary are good-they have a 'no kill' policy and i would recommend them
they are based in Antrim -just off the greystone roundabout on the M2
a bit handier for you
anne there is far more snobbery from the 'designer dog' brigade than from the pedigree people! They just cannot accept that they have bought a mongrel (or crossbreed) and many insist that their dogs are a proper breed!
As for the Kennel Club they are just a registry for dogs, and they also register non pedigrees on their Activity Register and there were even classes for mongrels at Crufts this year.
Does the Dogs Trust operate in Northern Ireland ? They do a smashing job over here in Wales.
i wish sandy would let us know what happened to the dog
Can't recommend the Dogs Trust enough. I have even left them money in my Will (hope none of my relatives are reading this!)
Anne round here they call them lurchers.but I agree its better than mongrel . Good Luck Sandy .

Did your neighbours family manage to find a home for the little dog? I would hate for my cats to be left with no home when I die.

The son told me he found a place for it in a place outside Bangor, the Assissi Animal shelter in Conlig. Sorry I haven't got back before now.
that's a good place -sandy
I hope that the wee dog found a happy home.
