This would never happen on an American airline as in the US they treat their servicemen with respect.

Has SIR Richrd Branson lost the plot although I gather it is not Virgin policy to ban serving personel to travel in their uniforms.

A total disgrace.......in my opinion.

wrong link squad ?

Dave.
sqad, can you put the correct link in, I've not heard this story? (That link's a gnome :-)
What's with the garden gnome link sqad?
why's branson got it in for gnomes?
THAT'S his uniform???
I know the story you are referring to (serving officer in uniform forced to change into pyjamas for flight), and it was G4S security to blame, not Virgin Airlines or Branson.

I can,t get rid of the gnome...LOL......will try again........LOL
Is woodland wilf in the military... squad?
It appears to be a misunderstanding on the part of a security guard who wrongly informed Virgin Staff of a policy that did not exist.

I wonder how the soldiers senior officers are going to view her going to the media!
Yes disgraceful sqad, hope 4GS gets done for this.
When surgeons travel they do not wear their theatre gowns,
When taxadermists travel they do not wear their aprons.
When car mechanics travel they do not wear their overalls.

So why did this military person have to wear a uniform when they were not on duty and on a civilian aircraft? Did they not have a change of clothes?

Entirely unsuitable attire for a modern commercial aircraft. Should be given a bollo(king for the embarrassment caused to the armed services.

Yes! Yes! Excuses and sound reasoning will soon abound on this thread................but the fact remains I am afraid......it.s a disgrace.

Gromit......they DON'T have to ....they choose to......you know.......freedom of choice.

Your analogies misrepresent what I consider to be an effrontery to our Armed Forces.

//Virgin Atlantic staff wrongly told her it was company policy not to allow military personnel to travel in uniform//

It clearly states that the decision was wrong! this is just the result of an over zealous worker by the sound of it.

Chill out and take 2 ibuprofen and monitor the situation.
When my father was in the force and come to think of it my brother and husband too, traveling in uniform was banned because of the risk to their and civilan life.
Can you still say 'our armed forces' if you choose to leave the country and live in another one?

Just pondering mind!!
She was flying in combats, not dress uniform - how many civilians might also wear combat trousers or jackets to go on holiday? I hope Virgin apologises properly.

Gromit, I understand your analogies but they don't stand up - many service people wear uniform clothing because they are proud of it. Surgeons don't wear their workclothes home because of hygiene and infection control, not the same thing at all.
