are there any national statistics as to which month has the most births? Or are they pretty evenly spread out? I only ask cause i seem to have "clusters" of friends birthdays (a lot in february and a lot in April)

You might try the ONS website (office of national statistics). I know what you mean though, 90% of my family's birthdays are in December, January and February. Makes me wonder what bored my family in April/May/June.

i wonder if it's because the sun starts to come out and suddenly everyone is a bit happier?

I always think my april ones are dur to everyone being on holiday in july
We are all farmers, so I imagine, those months weren't quite so busy on the farm!!!!!!
I thought it used to be because of power cuts
Have always thought that September has highest incidence of births, in some countries anyway. (Count back 9 months..) We have quite a cluster of September birthdays in our family, and April too!
This is something that I have often pondered as I also have friends whose birthdays are in clusters.

I had a friend who was one of ten children, six of them had a birthday in May. I often wondered which of the parents had a birthday in the late summer.....
I remember an old rhyme
Hooray , hooray
The first of May
Outdoor sex begins today.
That might have something to do with it.
Our family's birthdays are August, September, October, November, December, January, February & March. That's it - one in each month. What does that say about us? Neat perhaps!
I was born in April. If you count back in months you'll find that August is the ninth month.....most of us are holiday conceptions. Our parents should've taken more care:-)
I hate the ONS website; it's so ruddy difficult to navigate!

However the most recent figures seem to be for 2010. Live births in England and Wales were recorded as follows:
Jan: 60,179
Feb: 54,551
Mar: 59,965
Apr: 57,196
May: 59,444
Jun: 59,459
Jul: 62,166
Aug: 60,598
Sep: 62,986
Oct: 64,542
Nov: 60,745
Dec: 61,334
My family are mainly June, July and August.

interesting chris - october it is! Which i odd cause i know NO-ONE with a birthday in October
My son is October :-)
100 years ago, and maybe less in urban areas, September was the worst month to give birth as it meant a baby brought into the world in poverty had to struggle to survive through winter when it would be at it's most vulnerable. spring babies had a stronger chance of survival beyond 1 year.
those born in winter months are more prone to mental illness (just thought i'd brighten everyone's day) x
depends when your winter is though, what about australians?
In their winter months I would guess.
i can work out my parents jiggy night. Redcrx was conceived new year, my bro valentines, me on my sis bday and my lil sis the same lol
just the three nights, then?
four and probably on their honeymoon :-)
