/// Bosses at the centre, which opened less than a fortnight ago, claim the policy was instigated for ‘cultural reasons’ and was in the interests of the ‘predominantly Asian’ local community. ///

/// Even so, yesterday Muslims in the Sparkhill suburb of Birmingham were among those who condemned the restrictions, which were advertised on a poster outside the centre. ///

Must say, it looks a delightful place to take your children. Little buggers are certainly not escaping that place with its razor sharp fencing and barbed wire round it are they?
It's a private business that people can choose to use or not.

However, they are governed by British laws which require a very good reason why access to any service or facility should be denied on gender.

We should be encouraging and supporting the Muslims who are trying to practice their religion in a less orthodox manner rather than submitting to the ludicrous expectations of the zealots.
I went to Saudi Arabia a few years ago on business, a very strict Muslim country.

Every cafe and restaurant there is split into two (even McDonalds), one area for men only, the other area for women and children, with a barrier between the two.

Seems that sort of attitude is creeping into this country in some places.

Well if you will allow such rampant immigration from people who live with such awful practicies what do you expect.

Yet another example of this country being dragged down to third world levels.

We segregate schools. Many even contend that single sex schools are better. How is this different?
Parents aren't barred from entering 'single sex' schools
This sort of segregation should be encourage. Women and all ethnic minorities should sit at the back of buses. Front entrances to all shops and buildings should be very narrow to that obese people are forced to walk around the block to the "Fat" door. Bring back hanging and the stocks.
OK.

If what they are doing is against the law, they should be told to change. If they do not then close it down.
this is Britain therefore British law applies.....if this policy is unlawful then the centre should change its policy or be closed down.
A father crying in the wilderness here, for a different take on it :

What's the difference between this place and a golf club where there are severe restrictions on women, for example? We don't have hardly any outcry over that kind of thing even though we're meant to be leading country in democracy etc etc.

On the face of it none of these restrictions are 'just', but, as that famous saying goes: "sh*t happens!"
