Yesterday has been described as the greatest day in the history of British sport. But what day would you describe like that, if not today? 66 World Cup win, 2003 Rugby World Cup.....what?
The final day of the Olympics in Atlanta as it goaded our politicians (then under Major) into taking long term action for the development of minority sports in the UK and the use of lottery money.
Now the challenge is to ensure we capture all British raw talent and that means driving more sport into our state schools.......Hopefully, this is a legacy of this Olympics - and this means not only students but facilities and coaching.
I wouldn't like to single out one day but yesterday is definately up there with 66, 2003 and also Bradley winning Le Tour for the first time in 99 years must be a contender too.
I think the sheer range of events yesterday and over the past week in which GB have beaten the world far outstrips single matches in football or rugby (and even including England's triumph the last time cricket was played at the Olympics)
I dont think many Scottisah or Welsh people would think the 1966 World Cup was a great day for "British" sport.
And even though I am English, and pleased and proud we won the world cup in 1966 (I even went to one of the matches) we did play all our games at Wembley which gave us a great advantage so it made winning somewhat easier.
