Come to think of it, it wasn't Thompson, it was... Better not, nothing was ever proved.
// Bazile - she was too nimble on her feet to be tripped up. //

Yeah - pity the other lady wasn't nimble enough
Jake, I think SR is out greatest olympian because he spanned 5 olympics winning 5 golds, that' being top of the sport for an incredibly long period. I would mind if the real McHoy did it either, he's another legend.

I do wish the anti olympic trolls would go and spout their drivel somewhere else though.
Moonrocker, just because someone does not share your view does not make them a troll.
I am not anti Olmpics nor am I that bothered about them either, we are all entitled to our opinions.
well badric, you haven't commented previously on this thread so I'm not sure why you seem the be picking up this particular cap to wear.

when I say jake above I meant sp1814.
Moonrocker - ////I do wish the anti olympic trolls would go and spout their drivel somewhere else . . .////

Is your scathing comment directed at anyone in particular? Naturally there are pros and antis but it does not do you credit to criticise one's choice - especially having been an AnswerBank user for just over ONE month.
So there's a limit to how long you can be an Aber before you express a controversial opinion ?
^^^^ answered by sir.prize, more or less what I had in mind ^^^^
Has Thomson still got the ridiculous Tash ?

if he has ......I vote Steve Redgrave.
Not at all chaptazbru - but that was hardly a controversial opinion. It was an inappropriate directive by MoonRocker to tell people who do not necessarily support the Olympics to refrain from making comment in a particular forum. However MR clearly feels justified in extolling the virtues of his favourite sportspeople, without allowing opposing comments.

And why refer to someone else's comment/opinion as drivel.

Yes, a month as a user is a short time, but it is also enough time to assess the qualities and form an opinion of the poster.
I have no interest in watching or attending the olympics at all - I couldn't give a tinker's cuss which African beats which African in the 10,000 metres, who can row a boat quicker than somebody else, who can jump furthest in a sandpit, or which Australian can doggy paddle faster than another Australian.

I'm dreading my commute into London Bridge.

This doesn't make me a troll - all it in fact makes me is somebody who couldn't give a monkey's apart from my commute being more hellish than it usually is.

I get a bit annoyed with people who think anybody who either opposes or doesn't care about the Olympics is more evil than the bastard offspring of Polly Toynbee and Gary Glitter.
I just find it annoying when people pass rediculous comments just to annoy others. That's the definition of trolling. For example there is some ridiculous comment about zola bud above, classic trolling comment. I may be new here but I'm not new to dealing with this sort of thing. If you don't like the subject then don't comment simply to annoy others. eg "don't care", fine but why comment at all? There are lots of things I find inane but I don't seek out discussions just so I can pass a trolling comment. I thought that this site was a place to have sensible discussions especially in news but it seems that there are idiots who like to disrupt everywhere.
MoonRocker - this site IS a place to have sensible discussions.

If you dislike the inmates go find yourself another asylum to express your own 'drivel'.
that doesn't make you a troll flip flop but moaning about it and posting annoying comments on a completely different question does.

Now if the OP had asked, what do you think of the olympics, how will it effect you, then let rip.
That's me told then ......
My tongue was very firmly pressed into my cheek when I made the Zola Budd comment - I certainly didn't expect people to get upset by it.
An Olympic sportsperson should light the cauldron, not a celeb nor a worthy member of the public. My vote would go for Chris Hoy but I wouldn't object if Steve Redgrave was chosen.
Seeing that Daly Thompson refused to carry our Nations Flag at the '82 Commonwealth Games he should be excluded from any Ceremonial Duties at these games....imo.
would the thompson that refused to carry the flag in australia at an opening ceremony also be the same thompson that whistled during the national anthem in the usa by any chance ?........

see the pattern emerging here

hes not even in the same class as Sir Steve Redgrave
I totally welcome the Olympics. Because of where my office is located, I'll have to loads of work from home, which is just fine by me.

Perhaps Sir Chris is too much of a 'new' Olympian, but I certainly think he should be in the running.

Also...what about Steve Ovett?
