It would appear that most of the childhood heroes are now coming out of the closet.

Will Batman get married to Robin, is Superman also gay, is Super Woman a Lesbian, and what will happen to He-Man?

I think I will stick with my Dandy and Beano (and don't anyone say, "I thought you only read the Daily Mail"), you know where you are with Desperate Dan and Lord Snooty.

Or do we?

My hero....Wing Commander Guy Gibson DSO, DFC VC who led 617squadron to the dams of the Ruhr was a real man.....he liked women, drank with the lads and was a "man's man."

He couldn't possibly have been Wing Commander "Gay" Gibson.......a time when men were men and women were women.....
.....and Gibson's dog was called....
Wharton....LOL.........
Go on Sqad, say it, I Dan Dare you! - LOL.
'Tigger', wasn't it? Or something like that.
Wharton.....I can get into trouble on this site, without even posting.........so.......no chance.........."blackie"
*Go on Sqad, say it, I Dan Dare you! - LOL. *

naughty naughty lol
Let`s just call the dog Oscar shall we?
gness....NO...Oscar who?......even he was gay..........rather a bit Wilde.
one of the Archies got married to another guy recently

Archie himself is still failing to commit, however.
A bit Wild/e is nice.
My OH`s family had a dog with the same name as Guy`s during the war when the town was full of American soldiers.
Biggles & Ginger - I blame you for this Sqad!
Wharton - there is no 'Seaman Staines' or 'Master Bates'

This myth was started by the Sunday Correspondant, and continued by Victor Lewis Smith in The Guardian in 1991. John Ryan, originator of the Pugwash books sued both publications, and won his cases.

Thanks, I didn't know that, I was only being flippant.
andy, don't let facts get in the way of a good story!
I thought you'd that, being a journalist ;o)
*know* I should proof read, that's why I'm not a journalist!
I do know that Sipowicz. which is why I am a music journalist, and stay well away from nationals and hard news - too many chances to get sued!!!

Wharton - ytou are not alone, an amazing number of people think that the characters you mentioned were really in the series, and quote as such.

However, you are right on the button about Guy Gibson's dog - I think in the re-make they are calling him Blackie/
Jaysus, can't believe this. I ain't got over Rock Hudson coming out yet lol.
Talking of modern day myths...there's one about 'The Sound Of Music' that I found out was true only a couple of years ago.

It's the one about the Mother Superior and what she says to Maria when she returns to the nunnery.

What she actually asks is, "Maria, what is it you can't face".

Back to the question. The DC character who is coming out is The Green Lantern. He's 'second division'. I highly doubt that Marvel or DC would ever 'out' any of their big ticket franchises, such as Superman or Batman.

In fact, Batgirl was introduced in the sixties in order to stave off rumours that the Dark Knight and his boy wonder...

...good grief...'the boy wonder'. Is it any wonder people questioned their relationship, what with all the black rubber and all.
well, he wasn't a Dark Knight then, he was Adam West
