Have You Seen My Chopper?

Was a phrase I would have loved to have uttered as a child. Sadly, my parents could not afford one but I did learn to ride a bike on my friends Raleigh Chopper.

Sad then that the designer of probably the most iconic looking bicycle from the 70's has died.

Gawd, the bloody times I banged my goolies on that gear shift thing, riding my my brothers Raleigh Chopper.

Indeed tonyav. They were though the best bike for receiving a comfy 'seaty' from, but hard work for the rider!

I loved mine! Sturmey Archer three-speed gears, IIRC...
Yes Philtaz, they were hard work to pedal.
My brother moaned for months to get one
He eventually did for his birthday (red of course)
He rode it twice it then became a coat holder in the kitchen before my parents sold it

My younger sister (the golden child!) had a Chipper. Always wanted a Grifter too, sturdy looking bike that.
Ridiculous machines.

Mind you, I had a Raleigh RSW 16 which wasn't much better.

Sorry Hopkirk but gotta agree with tonyav.

The only thing you're missing off that is the basket at the front!
I have known a few woman that were 'Bikes '.
Mine was in blue, and looked much nicer.

I had a bike called a Vedek Raider... imported from Italy. (Ill try find a pic)
Seeing as it was Blue, I will let you off this time lol.
It had a built in dynamo and lights.
Never had a bike either living in inner london a few yards from the A3 (St John's Hill my mother thought it quite likely we would get killed..
The lad next door set fire to our shed with my little red bike in it. His dad made him give me his bike. He was fourteen and it was a racing bike. I was eight. My parents made me accept. I walked a long way with that bloody bike.
