And do you think it is an excuse to sneak another advert onto the page?

Hello Ab Editor,

I am not convinced having the OP pick the best answer and for it to be displayed prominently is a good idea. They are likely to just pick an answer which mirrors their own opinions.

If you need something to accompany the advert, why not give everyone the ability to vote for an answer. Like your polls. Then, instead of a repeat of the OPs...

ive only just noticed the changes...... that great big advert near the replies is doing my head in already...i marked you best answer to see what happens lol
no i havent cos it wont let me...i clicked something else instead..load of crap imo
I have no problem with having a best answer - my question is can the OP update the best answer if an even better one rolls in (like Ankou's here).

I am not a fan of the very intrusive ad though......horrendous - why not the bottom of the page?...."'Cos it earns more money" will be the answer, and "Capitalism rools ok."
Are you offering to fund the site directly DTC? Or an alternative funding method?

Gromit, sounds like a good idea in general. We already had half the Best Answer system implemented though, so it was much easier to "make live" - rather than creating a whole new system.

"They are likely to just pick an answer which mirrors their own opinions."

This is probably true of the News section, but it's unlikely to be so in Q&P.
I'll back Mr Ed up here DTC, the costs of these type of boards can be quite significant in terms of software, server costs and the like. Even free hosting boards are paid for through adbots like google or if the site owner doeant want ads they have to pay to have the adblocker put on the site.
Ed. You may be pleased to know that I am now getting German adverts ! I hope they are paying.
Can you send me a screenshot? You're not the first!
please can we go back to the way it was, it's not a good addition to the AB
Strange I seem to be the first to ask, "Is this a news question"?

Just wondering because I thought I had wandered over to 'Editor's Blog'.
it is news it happened last night!

admittedly its not quite like the daily mail where they do the news before the events happen, but its not chip paper yet.
Glad to see you've cheered up AOG.

Em10, I answered you earlier. No, we can't!
lol

Think you have the wrong person Ed, I was never gloomy.

Whilst we have your ear - is there some technical reason why italicised, underlined and bold lettering cannot be used on the site?

I'm sure that they were an option many years ago.

With regards to the 'best answer' adverisement paradigm - yes...they do slightly suck.

Yes excellent suggestion, they were very useful at times.
