And do you think it is an excuse to sneak another advert onto the page?

Hello Ab Editor,

I am not convinced having the OP pick the best answer and for it to be displayed prominently is a good idea. They are likely to just pick an answer which mirrors their own opinions.

If you need something to accompany the advert, why not give everyone the ability to vote for an answer. Like your polls. Then, instead of a repeat of the OPs...

I guess it keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the infamous list then Ed!

Sorry ummmm, should have clarified, I meant last page.
Well, the most recent answer is on the last page.
I have never marked an answer as best and it is very unlikely I will ever do so.
well then you are just one big meanie bum howard.
"I have never marked an answer as best and it is very unlikely I will ever do so"

Okay! Thanks for letting us know :)
A prize for most best answers of the week ?
ummmm

Doesn't work when posting from iPod Touch i.e can't select individual poster from Recently Answered section, only thread title.
Oh...okay.
ED. I clicked on 'Go to best answer' and I was returned to page 1. Not sure what that has to do with numbering posts. :-)
Not wanting to look like I'm nit picking Ed (perish the thought!) but are we supposed to be able to view the smileys at the end of your posts?
I only ever see semi-colons etc, not the actual smiley.
"I clicked on 'Go to best answer' and I was returned to page 1. Not sure what that has to do with numbering posts."

That's because that is where the best answer is, chosen by Gromit. Your problem is that you wanted to see the best answer in context?

Or do you just mean that we should revisit the discussion of a few weeks ago?

Philtaz: That is the way it should be. Umm means you can go to the best answer from the main category view i.e. here: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/ChatterBank/ to the last answer.

I will put "jump to last post when using the latest posts box" on the next update list.
Nope, they're lo-fi/old-school ;)
Thanks Ed, will hold you to that! LOL.
Ed you have my sympathies.
I am a software developer and life would be so much better if it werent for those users......
agree with Philtaz, Latest Posts panel should take you to the...err... latest posts. Rather than the first page of a thread where someone has just added Post #187. As there's a similar function already available via the topic pages, this ought to be doable. You could name it the Philtaz Phunction.
"Ed you have my sympathies. I am a software developer and life would be so much better if it werent for those users... "

I hear this a lot from techies. I'm not quite in their tribe although I do attempt to understand.

I think, actually, this has been fairly successful in terms of an update - very few massive complaints, no one is planning a walk out yet :)

I say this now, I am about to send out the update email newsletter so everyone is aware of these changes before the weekend. We'll see what gets said on Sunday morning!

Noted Jno.
Excellent suggestion jno. If it were my thread and I actually used the functio/phunction you'd get the bestest bestest answer by far!

Hello Ab Editor,

If you need something to accompany the advert, why not give everyone the ability to vote for an answer. Like your polls. Then, instead of a repeat of the OPs views, you could display something like [85% of posters like anotheoldgit's Answer best ] and just the time, no link to it.

That would offer users more participation. And not encourage them to skip several page views, which is the opposite of what you are trying to achieve.
