i truly give in...the great unwashed are now pelting riot police with bins/bricks/trolleys etc after a 'stop and search' took place in hackney. are they attempting to suggest the police should leave them alone to get up to lord knows what? you can see the stupid buggers gawping in the the middle of the trouble, others smashing the street up and actively provoking the police for a response. i say again - they should get the rubber bullets back out and perhaps the scrotes would think twice about acting like a hooligan/thug/gangster. i would be ashamed and horrified if that was my child behaving like that and would do lords knows what to him as a result. why do parents let their children grow up believing that it is acceptable to behave in this way? what are your thoughts on the events that are unfolding? is currently live on bbc news x

Its on the news now, a number of other areas in London have been warned to block up windows, and the people to stay indoors, what the hell is wrong with the people who cause trouble, i don't see any point to it at all.
I listened to some twit earlier who rambled on, about how the city is under pressure, and that some people are unhappy with the ways things are and are going to do something about it, i lost the plot completely listening to him witter on
A few days of persistent rain will sort them out.

Where is the good-old English summer when we need it?

yeah...it seems to be ok to go and smash things up if you are 'deprived' or 'bored', stopped by the police (because you probably look like a troublemaker - or are known to them) and because entertainment is not laid out on a platter. i'm deprived and bored...and work around 50 hours a week for the privilege! does that mean i can go and smash up my local curry's to ensure i have the latest electronic gadgets? x
I honestly think that the time has come for the Army to be called out to back up the police to take proper action against what is a terrible situation. The Police do not have sufficient manpower to deal with criminality on this scale. I am not advocating martial law but proper manpower to crush this ongoing riot with whatever force is required ie gas, water canon or even firearms if required. This mob must learn that they cannot again take control of our streets again.
I knew Hackney would go today - em10 what other areas are are they warning?

rioting 'could strike anywhere' as inequality breeds social powderkeg

>. trade unionsts warned could erupt anywhere in britain due to unemployment and social alienation <<

wait till all the benefit cuts really start to kick in
I'm just waiting for the first person to say it's all Cameron's/Clegg's/Boris's fault.
its been raining on and off for a while now, the rain won't do it anyway, the little bstards will just carry on, and maybe we don't have watercannons here, but perhaps we should, think what this costs in real terms, in lost businesses, homes, and people staying at home, too frightened to venture out, so retail outlets losing out again. Add in what this is doing to our standing around the world, and make no mistake the world is watching. A number of people who were interviewed on the news were surprised we had this sort of thing over here. And like bombings in London, it does put people off from coming here. Suppose this goes on next year when the Olympics is in full swing, i dread to think what could happen then.
I agree em.

Is it too late to introduce 'Brick Throwing' as an Olympic event?

Could increase our medal hopes. On second thoughts, most of those filmed have been pretty useless even at that.
I am watching the live scenes now and I really don't know what the police are supposed to do
If I was there I don't think I would be as patient as the police are being
I fancy a shot at one of the more brazen projectile throwers with a baton round/rubber bullet.

That would take the wind out of their sails.
Hazel Barnet and Southgate it would seem. Not heard much more, but check out BBC website or Sky news.
Water Cannon are difficult to deploy and can injure by-standers but I thought current technology enabled the use of lower pressure 'smart water' which marks people for later identification.
Baton rounds/rubber bullets were designed to be bounced off the ground and not fired directly at people. When they're used like that they're lethal.
that's a better idea, smart water, or as someone else said non removable dye, preferably sprayed all over them.
You're right Sandy.

'so what?' i hear some saying...
no i wouldn't want someone's death, only that they stop what they are doing, get picked up by the police and end up in court, then off to jail.
why would the police use water cannon when they have guns? (The better to shoot their own radios with.)
latest news from Sky, Lewisham is now in the frame, so who is next?
Don't use smart water they be suing for damage to their clothes (jd special)
