No question really. Just wish him a speedy recovery. The police often come in for negative comments here but where would we be without them.

^Probably worth a thread of it's own, jno.

mikey will probably start one, Svejk. (And quite right.)

Sorry, when I posted you hadn't actually asked a question so I couldn't answer. However, I also wish him a quick recovery.
It says this was a planned raid to recover a weapon, so I assume frontline officers would be wearing bullet proof vests, so hopefully this injury is not life threatening.
Taking guns out of circulation is good work, but dangerous. I wish the injured officer a speedy recovery.
Just read another report and the language is very guarded. It might be a friendly fire incident?

// Commander Ball went on: "During the operation, a firearm was discharged, wounding a male Detective Constable from the Trident Area Crime Command.
“At this early stage it has been established the officer received a gunshot wound through the shoulder during the operation - and an investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident. //

I might be wrong but the report doesn't actually say that the man arrested wounded the officer. Will have to see how this pans out.

Yes, gromit, I thought the official accounts suggested a possible 'friendly fire' incident. But then eye witnesses seem to think not.
As you say, we shall see. You'd think the police would have made things clearer by now. (well, I would)
The eyewitness that is in a few of the reports I have seen talks of 'mayhem' and a lot of 'undercovers' in the vicinity. Certainly the reports do not seem to make must sense as presented. Whatever the circumstances, let's hope the officer makes a speedy recovery.
Nothing new in East London it would seem, this happened in July.

But notice the footnote.

*** An earlier version of this article said the youths responsible for damaging the Home Office vehicles were Muslims. Muslim readers have asked to point out that the youths’ religion was unclear and, in any case, irrelevant to the story. We apologise for any offence caused. ***

If a police man has shot another police man, that is news and something new.
It is a dangerous job. Just yesterday saw the state funeral in Ireland of Garda Tony Golden who was shot dead when he went to a domestic incident in Co Louth on Sunday.

They've confirmed he was shot by 'unfriendly fire'. Wonder why they phrased the earlier statements as they did. Hey ho, sounds like he's going to be alright. That's the main thing, I should say.
