Very much has been said on Answerbank regarding certain newspapers, which incidentally are all classed as the 'The Right Wing Press', or 'those rags' and sometimes much worse.

So in a matter of interest, and given the chance, what newspapers would ABers wish to go the same way as the News of the World, what newspapers should remain, and why?

None variety is the spice of life. However a number need a good kick in the knackers.

It shouldn't be missed the culpability of all political parties in allowing the press to get away with whats been going on.

We shouldn't allow foriegners to own British media companies. If theres one thing that has been shown in this whole affair its the paucity of political leadership in this country. You wouldn't trust one of them to go to the corner shop to fetch bread, without losing the money.
I didn't read the News of the world, but I'm sorry it's gone. It was a sad day in my opinion that such a well read and years old paper had to go because of corruption in the powers that be. Sad so many people lost their jobs. My dear old Nan, dead many years now adored the NOTW - she'll be turning in her grave bless her !
I like the Sunday Post and the Scottish Daily Mail. The Mail has good cartoons, competitions and a puzzle supplement. I ignore most of the rest of the Mail.
I have just cancelled my weekly delivery of the Scottish Sunday Mail - total garbage.
None should go...but I would remove 'page 3 type images' as they serve no useful purpose
Seeing as you can get informative news on TV, radio and online without all the gossip and trash, perhaps all of them should go.

And those that like them for quizzes, crosswords, puzzles etc. could just get magazines that cater for them, much the same as those that buy them for all the tripe can buy magazines such as OK and Hello or those off the top shelf.

They have ceased to become 'News' papers, and with 24 hr news coverage on TV and on line who needs them for news.
LL "TV, radio and online without all the gossip and trash" what do you watch then. This comment doesn't apply to BBC, ITV or Sky
You don't find any good cryptic crosswords in magazines apart from Saga and The Spectator .
All the good ones are in the Guardian ,Times and Telegraph .Admiitedly The Guardian give free access to their crosswords but you have to subscribe to The Telegraph and Times .
My husband is the news junkie .He buys the papers .I just do the crosswords in them and have never yet found a magazine that offers the standard of good cryptic crosswords that the newspapers do .
So no ..I don't think any of them should go but they need to be scrutinised more carefully and not let one media mogul be in control of our press.
shaney - who is that LOVELY dog ?
BBC news Dave and the BBC website generally!!

Hi Shaney. You can buy books of all the telegraph crosswords, cryptic and otherwise - I used to get them for my Mum!! ;o). The continued to get the Telegraph even when she gave up reading it, just for the crosswords!! I understand what you are saying though. I honestly do believe that there will be a change not far off an that newspapers will decline in the form that they take now. Sales have already plunged apparently.
There is a gap in the market for a quality tabloid. The daily hate does have some good articles. The health pages and financial pages are interesting and the saturday version does some quite good features. A tabloid that incorporates those qualities with objective reporting would be great. It`s hard to find objective reporting these days. I wouldn`t like to see newspapers disappear. Not everyone has access to the internet or BBC News 24. The newspaper is an age old tradition and a feature in many peoples` daily routine. I read the papers in the middle of the night at work. They help keep me awake. Hopefully the News of the World scandal will make the industry clean up it`s act a bit.
I don't want books of crosswords ! The answers are all in the back anyway so there's no point .
The best paper at the moment is this I paper .It gives you all the facts and costs 20p and has a really good crossword .
The dog by the way notasyoungasiwas is my late lamented hound Shaney :)
The Guardian would be top of my chop list, but I'm not a big fan of any of them currently - they're all so dead set on a certain agenda (whatever political leaning)... bores me to tears.

Do like the FT on the weekend though... Oh and Private eye, if that counts - it's certainly journalism in parts, more so than most chip-wrappers.
Ah, but you can cheat if the answers are in the back! ;o) I used to find my mum cheating, bless her. She was frail and elderly and had a degree of dementia, but she still kept doing them right up until the very end. We would do them together, and when I left the room for a cuppa quite a few more words had appeared.
So sorry he's gone shaney, He reminds me of my beautiful dog Bruno who is 12 going on 13. Ooops this is supposed to be about papers not dogs !
Don't worry notasyoungasiwas .Shaney was avid fan of Dogs World Weekly :)
Ha ha shaney - Bruno prefers Dogs Today .......
The NotW didn't have to go, it was sacrificed in the hope it woud take some heat off. As for being a liability, I suspect the damage had already been done. In any case I see the sky bid has been withdrawn (for now).
