Why aren't cowardly criminals like him forced to face the judge for sentencing?

because we have just as cowardly a justice system. My post yesterday was about this vile man, and i said that the poor family have suffered so much, and they were made to go through hell.
em10 yesterday
Levi Bellfield has been found guilty
of Milly Dowlers murder, and quite honestly i don't know why we can't lock these people up and throw away the key
Shame the judge cannot put the black cloth on his head as per the old days and sentence this repugnant low life to what he deserves....the gallows. Millies mother summed it beautiful in wishing his jailed life a living hell. Let's hope so.

Scum like him deserve to hang
Am I missing something? That link is months old.
and he'll be looked after for the rest of his life.
Why can't these people just be put down?
it is, 2008, but at least he will go down and stay down.

It might be too upsetting for him to be there when the judge announces the sentence. It probably contravenes his human rights to be made to hear it or something.
No one should have the 'right' not to attend court to hear the judge's summing up and final verdict. Being frightened, or upset doesn't really cut it in my opinion.

I've seen Silence Of The Lambs. Why couldn't he be strapped to one of those wheeled lifting trolley things and pushed into the dock? As Ludwig says, upsetting the poor chap might cause his Human Rights to be violated and we can't have that.
it might be worth pointing out that Bellfield was also charged with trying to abduct an 11-year-old. But the trial had to be abandoned because of saturation media coverage, which the judge said could only have influenced the jury. People who lap this sort of thing up may need to consider whether the stories they're reading actually make it impossible to convict someone.
^^^ I'm a great believer in keeping all parties anonymous in legal cases until such time as a verdict has been reached. This is a case in point.
I agree with the posters.
Is there anyway I can get a transcript of what his defense said about poor Millie, what a disgusting trial for her family!
A typical coward, but he will probably be raped and battered on a daily basis,if he survives 12 months it will be a miracle and a further injustice
And would it be ok if he went into court and used it as an opportunity to insult the 'show off', insult the judge, laugh at the victim's family?

What does his non-appearance really matter?
He's a non-entity. A nothing. He's gone down almost certainly for the rest of his life and will have a suitably horrible time in prison.
Remembering Milly is more important than remembering him.
