I think that sometimes men have worn the burka to hide their identity!........and I also think that it's not appropriate to wear one when you choose to live in the West!.........
Nox I happen to agree with e.crespo. I object to the fact that they can carry on as though they have a right to criticise us, making demands and censuring our way of life. Their menfolk it seems are unwilling or unable to control themselves with any women and they keep their wives subservient. They have chosen to come here and live in a modern society, not some medieval sandpit, that said, their customs are strange to us and there isn't a hope in hell of integration, nor do I think they want to. Britain should do as we think fit for the good of our country, if it means banning face coverings so be it.
anyone could wear a fake beard and glasses and walk into a bank and rob it... well, anyone with a gun and a way of opening the safe and getting round the other security defences!
ok so that's 3 people wearing a burka to do wrong... are you going to give us the stats on how many people wear them and don't do wrong and are genuinely women who wear them as a mark of their faith? That really is a pathetic argument!
"are you going to give us the stats on how many people wear them and don't do wrong and are genuinely women who wear them as a mark of their faith?"
paul - no i'm not, and i don't think it has to do with their faith either.
i was replying to
"Men don`t wear burkas! Maybe I`ve had a sheltered life but I`ve never seen a man in one! "
"Who are they hiding their ID from? "
"Nobody wears them to hide their ID. Why would they? "
what has it to do with then if not their faith?
I assumed you were saying because these people have used it to hide their identity and if you see one youre scared in case its a man who'd going to rob a bank you wanted them banned, is that not the case?
Sorry, but I am with France on this one!.........if they want to live in the West, then they need to become a n part of that culture, and that includes the way you dress! no burkas in the uk!!...........Outlaw them!.........
Do not have enough time to read whatever others said. I am personally not in favour of Burkah or anything that covers one’s face but I respect it as people's choice and have no issue with that.
But one thing does always make me laugh when I read few people saying that Burkah is sign of oppression. If you believe so then why do you need to bring in a law to force people to take it off? After all that is more oppressing especially when people are defiant. Because very simply that means that your perception was a mere misconception because the one who had been forced would not defy when someone would try to get them out of that.
Finally I do not want to say if French have made a mistake or not. It is their country and they have right to bring in any law they believe would make their country better or safer. Having said that being a Muslim I believe if anyone believes that they would push Islam on the back foot with anything like this then they are simply wrong. It will work other way and that is the beauty of Islam. Just wait couple of years and see what I mean. You would see more French people converting to Islam in years to come in very near future. Just as when propaganda against Islam increased after 9/11 more people converted to Islam as a result of that.
Keyplus - “But one thing does always make me laugh when I read few people saying that Burkah is sign of oppression.”
It makes you laugh because you completely misunderstand the reason that women wear the Burkah. You have previously stated on other threads that you believe that wearing the Burkah will reduce the risk of a woman being raped. It is because of this threat of rape from male assailants that the Burkah has become a symbol of male Islamic oppression.
If you tell woman that they will be subject to the horrific experience of rape unless they wear a full body covering and you keep telling them this again and again, and if that story is reinforced by friends, family, religious leaders and the media, it's highly likely that they will start to believe it. And once that fear has been ingrained in the minds of women, it is further reinforced by dishonestly suggesting that a full body covering is sanctioned and/or demanded by the Koran (which of course it isn't) and by the Islamic culture in general. This is precisely what has happened – instil the fear and reinforce by religious/cultural teachings (or just flat out lies).
Put simply, the wearing of the Burkah was originally prescribed for women in order to make them fear men and to be subdued by misogynistic, violent, oppressive men of seventh century 'Arabia'. What can also be inferred from the full body covering is that it was the opinion of some Muslim men that they themselves could not be trusted to be in female company without feeling the need to rape them. This is a damning indictment of the members of a supposedly pious and peaceful religion.
It makes me laugh when people such as yourself attempt to suggest that the Burkah is not a sign of oppression. It makes me sad when I hear women saying that they are wearing it because it's their choice as they feel it brings them closer to God. Not only have they misunderstood the Koran, they have succumbed to the lies and to the fear that men are incapable of controlling themselves.
It just goes to show how successful the Islamic religion is in convincing women that black is white.
