As our present Labour government is doing such a bad job of running the country how can we, the public, force an election.

I.e. How do we go about it? and what are the rules we would have to follow?

Or is it only the Queen that can dissolve parliament?

From reading so many comments attached to news on line articles it is very clear that so many of the public are really fearful about the incompetence of this Labour government.

It is not only their financial incompetence but all those mad and crazy laws they are proposing in order to subjugate the middle class, also they want details of every child over the age of eleven put on a database that will be able to be accessed by so many different people including anyone working in departments such as the NHS, Social Services, Schools, Local Government - and potentially any pervert working in these places could have access to info about your precious child.

This government is seriously subversive in so many ways and it must be stopped. They want to destroy this country - too many people haven't got a clue what they are up to.

Now Harriet Harman wants to destroy the aspirations of the 'middle classes'.

They are out and out communists.

They are seriously deluded and have to be got rid of and it will only be worse if we have to wait for the next scheduled election is 2010 as they will have done so much more damage by then.

People who think this Labour government cares about this country of ours are wrong.

Only the MPs themselves can force an election, by passing a vote of no confidence in the government. As that would reuire the support of at least some Labour MPs, for whom it would be like turkeys voting for an early Xmas, it isn't going to happen.
People of Britain! Stop what you are doing right now! Pick up a good weapon (shotgun, airgun, BB gun, spanner, hammer, surgical scalpel, professional chef's carving knife or can of ammonia-based antifreeze) and get out on the streets! Let us march to Westminster and demand democracy!

That's the way you have to do it!
(Beware of the bullets from HM forces though).
I want to make it clear that I am not a labour supporter, and admit that they aren't doing wonderfully. But you sound ridiculous. Out and out communists? lol.

I'd be pretty sure that you're very right wing, and would be interested to know who you support. Brown might be doing rubbish, but I'd rather have him in power than Cameron. Cameron, who doesn't seem to have any idea of what to do about the current crisis, and is all about image, that is it. Who constantly changes his mind just so he disagrees with Brown and can attack him in the press.

I don't know much about it, but I have definitely heard that a lot of top economists agree that in the situation we are in the best thing to do is not to hold back on spending, so that even if the pound is devalued, banks are prepared to lend, and having a low value currency (within reason) attracts international buyers, so more money comes in to the economy so the nation repairs itself eventually. This is what Brown is doing. Ineffectively admittedly, but still, better than doing nothing. (If anyone who knows better/more about this wants to put me right about any of that then please do).

"subjugate the middle class." You clearly are middle class yourself. I am too, but I don't feel subjugated. Even if I did, better a government who subjugates the middle class than one that IS subjugated by the middle and upper classes in my opinion.

"too many people haven't got a clue what they are up to." Well go one, enlighten us. To be honest, you're knowledge didn't seem that up to scratch, you asked if the queen was the only person who could dissolve parliament and you compared Labour to communists when they are more right wing than they ever have been.
I think, that it is YOU who is "seriously deluded," with all your alarmist statements (which are unfounded) and bigotry. From all your middle class talk I would guess that you are more concerned with maintaining your privileged life style and keeping a wide gulf between you and the "working class" than you are about the welfare of this country.

I repeat though, I am not trying to defend labour.
The Queen can dissolve Parliament and the government, but even though she has the absolute power to do so as Head Of State, she would need a real good reason to do so. Whilst I am critical of this government,I wouldn't say it was totally inept,or corrupt,so that would not go down well for her to sack it.
I would think if there was a national crisis - similiar to the outbreak of war - she might dissolve the government and personally appoint her own Prime Minister to oversee a coalition government. This is has been suggested by a few people in the papers because of the global recession.

Sysavoe. Don't panic! Don't panic !
You repeat the fears of Daily Mail and Daily Express readers, as encouraged and exaggerated by those delightful journals. Sit down with a nice copy of The Times and you'll feel better (it always works for me!). Don't ,whatever you do, read the jobs section of The Guardian or you'll suffer a relapse!

It's only very senior members of the Labour Party who've ever been members of the communist party. They resigned when they found there wasn't a phone box to hold the AGM in.
Don't Panic , Lets get things into perspective , This is a worldwide problem caused by greed and our love of material things we cannot afford to buy out of our own wages, The grass is not as green on the other side of the world as it looks from here ,

In this time of need , we need to come together with cross party expertise from all sides to forward us in the quickest agreed way to let this crunch be as short as possible, And for the papers/media coverage to be responsible and be more posotive as it is them talking us all down and getting people depressed about things,

who would really want to be prime minister at this time for that meagre wage ?? certainly not me .
