It must be over 33 years since we had a corner shop, I remember them as friendly one to one service

Ours isn't. The one to one service is not the same but times have changed. Our local tends to be busy most of the day and it's only a minute away.
We still have some, often they have been in the same family for a couple of generations, many have enlarged from their corner plot into the next adjacent property too.
We have the equivalent not far away on our residential estate. Sells newspapers, cigarettes, basic food stuffs and drinks, takes in Hermes parcels etc. It opens 7 days a week. Post box just opposite.
A lot of our shops could be called corner shops but that's fine. Much better than high street anywhere.
Used to be corner shops where I live, it was always the end terraced house and they were very friendly, but they've all gone round here now, sadly.

Cant see we have any, the nearest small shops are on a semi circle green which consists of a bakers , a newsagents,a hairdressers , the PO is now in the newsagents , a veterinary practice and a Charity shop
There’s an ‘open-all-hours’ corner shop in the next village. It’s more expensive for some thinks and the fresh fruit and veg is a bit tired. However if you need an essential like a bottle of plonk or a particular herb or spice for a recipe they save the day.
we have corner shops still but quite honestly i don't shop there anymore, everything is so tightly packed in, and the fact remains that you get little by way of customer service today.

LJ, I agree , there was always a one on each corner of a street
well there are still plenty of convenience stores, some actually on corners. if anything they'll be the last ones to go as we move more and more to getting stuff delivered. They'll be the ones that we'll still pop out to for a pint of milk etc.
We do have one in my village, they even sell bits of ironmongery. Tiny Post Office counter on a part time basis. Newspapers etc.
My only gripe is that a good percentage of their stuff is Happy Shopper.

On streets though TTT ?
I know many petrol stations have them but I've not seen a proper ' Open all Hours' one for years
close to me there is a post office, on a corner, that sells all the stuff that a cornershop sells too. Opposite on the other corner is a "Best One" that sells all the stuff a cornershop sells! They both seem to thrive mind!
We've got a few of them around here - some completely independent as opposed to being branded as an Everydays or whatever. Did you see that programme on iplayer called Back In Time For The Corner Shop?

Yes I did 237SJ, was very interesting, the sugar was filled into blue bags and fresh butter came in a barrel
....and they had a bacon slicer!
one of ours has been resident for at least 40 years, an asian family run it, but i just can't go in there, it looks quite filthy for one thing and packed to the gunnels for another. I used to go there for newspaper, but i don't do that now.

Haha, they sure did TTT
....and bundles of firewood
