Isn't Bathsheba the woman King David saw out his window and committed adultry with and had her husband put on the front lines of the war so he would die int he Bible?
Bathsheba is also a character from the book Far from the Madding Crowd, by Thomas Hardy.

I tried reading George Orwells 1984 a few weeks ago but I found it quite disturbing.
Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett -- This masterful saga of life in twelfth century England is epic storytelling at its best. The author weaves a rich and colorful tapestry of people, places, and events surrounding the building of a magnificent cathedral in the medieval town of Kingsbridge.
Hi bladski, I'm reading The Expected one by Kathleen Mcgowan just about finished it. It's a good read but not as good as The Da Vinci Code. I've also got The Thirteenth Apostle by Michel Benoit, which looks really good.
Question Author
I just finished Into The Wild, Love Monkey, and Catcher In The Rye... they were all pretty good and now i'm reading The Lovely Bones.

I expected more from Catcher in the Rye but it really had no plot
Question Author
Tigger i'm gonna have to read 1984... i've always wanted to. what was disturbing about it?
Yes bladski - but she was also in Thomas Hardy novel- Far from the Madding Crowd, + portrayed on the silver screen by Julie Christie- see pic, with Terence Stamp as Sgt Troy.
I read Lovely Bones a few years ago. That is quite disturbing as well.

Sophies World is a good book. Very philosophical if you like that kind of thing. Da Vinci Code is indeed a brilliant book and so is Angels and Demons.
anythong by kathy reichs, if you have watched
Bones you will know the character, they are excellent
Question Author
I loved DVinci Code but i thot Angels & Demons was better. Yes Lovely Bones is a little disturbing, it's ok.
Hey Bladski,

I have just read four really good books. The Egyptian Novels by Wilbur Smith. River God, The Seventh Scroll, Warlock and Quest.

Question Author
I just read about Sophies World on wikipedia, looks interesting, i might try it out

Banjo are those sci-fi or fantasy books?
I've just finished reading "The Meaning of Night" by Michael Cox. When I started it I thought I wouldn't enjoy it but once you get into the story it's really very good.
I found "We Need to Talk about Kevin" quite disturbing but it was a brilliant book.
"1984" would probably seem fairly tame now that a lot of it is already happening! The disturbing thing about it is that there is no hope. If you haven't read it i won't spoil the ending but it is very good.
Agree That "Pillars of the Earth" is an excellent if mammoth read!
I just found it very difficult to read. It is basically like living in an oppressed state where you can't do anything without being watched. It makes think of Stalins reign of terror and what could have been if the Germans had succeeded during WW2.
i just read The Memory Keepers Daughter by Kim Edwards. Simple read, storyline etc but a real page turner and a very moving story.
Question Author
I just bought FAHRENHEIT 45 by Bradbury and it sounds similar to 1984
Hey Blad,

Fantasy - brill to get lost in, I couln't put them down. I guess it depends what you're looking for.

I wish I hadn't read them now, so I could read them again!

xx
Question Author
Banjo - I don't really read fantasy anymore (besides Harry Potter) but when I was young I read about 20 books in a series called Dragonlance and i loved them
