From a long time ago, a bloke dies in a crash and they find a ring in the glove compartment implying he was about to propose, any ideas?

The only one which sound a bit like it is 'Tell Laura I Love her' although they didn't find a ring in the glove compartment, this one implies he was taking part in a stock car race in order to win to get the money to buy a ring and dies.

Teen Angel: Mark Dinning was about a car stalling on a railroad track. He pulled her out,but she went running back...Goes on "what was it she was looking for that took her life that night,they say she found my high school ring,clutched in her fingers tight" Those words are pretty accurate,maybe that's the one?
