Yesterday morning, I presented quite a vision to my fellow motorists as my mouth gaped open in a silent Munchian scream. It was silent in my car though - I was trying to drown out Simply Red's version of Dylan's 'Positivly Fourth Street' which has almost (but not quite!) ousted Witless Uselss and 'I Will Always Love Yahoo' as the most dreadful cover version ever released. What do you think - which is the most godawful cover version of any song you;ve heard?

chilli peppers under the bridge got killed by some bloody horrible girl band
Almost anything over the last few years by the neverending parade of talentless pop wannabees destroying classic songs. If I had to choose a worst offender it might be the five minute wonders who sucked all the life out of 'Baker Street' a while back. But I'm sure I'll think of others...
Personally, I think whoever covered The Smiths' 'How Soon Is Now' for the Charmed theme tuned, has a lot to answer for. That cover is an abomination!
will young killing the doors classic 'light my fire' has got to be high on the list. and to continue the doors theme, echo and the bunnymen's cover of 'people are strange' for the lost boys soundtrack was pretty damn awful.
The Atomic Bagladies murdering 'The Tide is High' was pretty blummin' apalling. Oh, and another song that was hung drawn and quartered was 'Eternal Flame' by... er... Oh... The Atomic Hounds. Actually, it's not just their cover versions that suck, let's face it...
I vaguely remember a disco version of "Time Warp" which totally destroyed the song. Didn't Rold Harris cover "Stairway to Heaven", and altho' that song is past its sell by date it ought to be allowed to rest in peace, donchathink, Rolf ?
oh yeah, and Emma Bunton ("fat spice" to her friends) totally murdered "What I Am" by Edie Brickel. Is nothing sacred ?

Sorry, just re-read the Q - my worst cover version is Fat Boy Slim (he wasn't called FBS when this came out) absolutely mullering the SOS Band's Just be good to me.
Heard a dance version - yes a dance version - of Pink Floyd's all-time classic "Comfortably Numb" on Radio One a while back. To say I was struck dumb is an understatement!
It has to be any one of those rap cover versions that keep the chorus of a song and ditch the verses (Warren G's version of 'I Shot the Sheriff' springs to mind as an example). Or DJ Sammy's butchering of 'The Boys of Summer'. Or Scooter's butchering of 'The Logical Song'.
When Cliff Richard did that Auld Lang Syne thing it was almost as painful as when Michael Jackson did that thing when he thought he was Jesus. I know Auld Lang Syne isn't a stonking classic but that cover version still made me want to hide behind the sofa!!

All Saints wasn't the worst cover, although the Chili's is unarguably far better. I'd have to agree with someone else's contention that the Scissor Sisters hack-up of "Comfortably Numb" is up there at the pinnacle, if pinnacle is right for the worst.
