A stab in the dark here....S club 7?
Bros ( I know, I know!)
Peter, Paul & Mary (heh!)
Thompson Twins

Can I just ask as well- who are ELP?
that's Emerson , Lake and Palmer , BOO....3 ego merchants from the 60s
No, but you'd have been bang on if you'd said The Thompson Twins or The Ben Folds Five! Not Alabama 3 though - there are eight of them (and they're from Brixton).

How about:
ZZ Top
Green Day
Busted
Blur (after Graham Coxon left)
Feeder
Supergrass (before Gazs brother joined)

B00 - ELP are Emerson, Lake and Palmer, they of terribly prtentious prog rock "fame".
Oops - sorry, first bit was meant to be for Elvis.
Cream...the ultimate 3 piece supergroup
littleoldme, you have the same opinion of ELP as well, lol
Damn right, all that twiddly noodly poncery - can't be doing with it :-)

How about Rush, who I think are still going? And weren't Wishbone Ash a trio?
Apart from a brief spell as a five-piece in the early 80s, Wishbone Ash have always been a quartet as far as I know. Good call on Rush though.
Salt N Peppa (if you include non-singing Spinderella)
Back Door, jazz rock faves of the 70s; Budgie, Welsh heavy metal rockers; Manic Street Preachers (talking of Welsh); Grand Funk Railroad (terrible 60s band) and Mountain (ditto).
Weren't Ash orginally a three-piece? And Soft Machine?

I'm shocked that people had to ask who ELP were - that's a sign I'm getting old. ELP were massive in the 70s. Terrible band though.
didn't know budgie were welsh, cool!
- can't believe no-one's mentioned nirvana yet
- crosby, stills & nash
- ash (used to be)
- a-ha
- beastie boys
- dodgy
- fun lovn criminals
- john butler trio
- the lemonheads
- medeski, martin & wood
- stereophonics (not sure if they still are)
- the jam
In vaguely related ELP/Rush territory, Genesis after Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett left, leaving the trio of Tony Banks, Phil Collins & Mike Rutherford - their most commercially successful phase, though fans disagree over the artistic quality of the prog vs pop versions.

XTC for about 17 years, though down to a duo on their last 2 albums.
How about ;
TLC
Stray Cats,
3 Degrees
The Supremes
Paper Lace
Mai Tai
Pointer Sisters
The Bachelors
Wilson Phillips
The Seekers (not the new seekers, they were 5)
Martha and the Vandellas
The Ronettes
Clam Chowder (brilliant Canadian group)
Lorraine (Norwegian group, very good)
OMD
Fun Boy Three
Bananarama

Trio.....de dar dar dar....... ????????
Crowded House, Clem Snide, Shivaree...
rem?
Placebo are made up of Brian, Stefan and Steve.
