Zinnie - interesting comment. When I drive my car at 76mph (that's its top speed) and the windows are open and the wind is blowing in my hair I have to go for Status Quo or Hendrix or Van Halen or (Money For Nothing) Knopfler ! But in the quiet moments of a dinner party when I am commenting on the choice of wine I like to have John Williams and Julian Bream. This is the wonder of that most versatile of instruments - THE GUITAR !
Still listen to them all the time. Admit I just found this on youtube and not heard the accoustic version before. Not too thrilled but it does demonstrate his skill. I went to see them a couple of years ago. Still brilliant even with the change of line-up.
Whilst I believe Jimi to be the daddy when it comes to rock guitarists and Rory Gallagher for white blues rock, Alvin Lee of "Ten Years After" was, in my opinion, vastly underrated. Fastest guitarist in the west.
Yes. I think he was blind and was simply responding to Ronny Cox's guitar version of Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith's 'Dueling Banjos' but he kept increasing the tempo. Memorable !
The lad in Deliverance didn't actually play the banjo. He was picked from obscurity because of his looks and put back there afterwards. Someone was behind him and it was those hands that were playing.
