Orchestras

musing as you do on things, I wondered how Orchestra players ever have a home life. After all if they are not rehearsing, they are playing. They tour, travelling around the world, so how do their partners, unless they are part of the orchestra cope with them being away so much. Evening and some lunchtimes are taken up with concerts, so not much fun for the partner.

i'm still musing...
No different than for any of the rest of us whose partners work away a lot - we just get on with our own lives. Not a problem.
Question Author
does that mean your partner is in an orchestra>

or works away a lot..
The latter, em, can be days on end, depending on the job. Not a problem.
^^ and tbh, it's no different for anyone who has a partner with a fulltime job - you can be like ships that pass in the night!

i guess so, but many musicians in these large orchestras must be away a fair part of the year on tour. Then of course all the concerts across the country, i thought it was interesting to see if anyone on here has a loved one in an orchestra and how they cope.
Its a way of life that only suits some em. Anyone working in the arts, TV, actors, camera people etc all have to spend a huge amount of time travelling.
I have friends whose partners work overseas a lot of the time - and it's the same with family in the Forces. You just get used to it.

indeed, i guess there must be temptations as well being away so much....
No, not really, not if you are sure in your relationships - and some people who travel the world with work don't get time for shenanigans, each day is filled with meetings and yet another hotel room.
