Camera on lights

Your views please
A12 rush hour in Essex. 3 Lanes waiting at red lights with camera. Police car with sirens in middle lane. The first vehicle is a van which is not moving because to do so would mean going forward and possibly getting "flashed". The police officers were going bonkers gesticulating at the driver to move, which he did when the lights went to green. I'm not sure what I would have done. The highway code does'nt seem to help. What are we supposed to do?.

you have to wait till the lights go green.move through and you will be fined. this has been in the national press before about someone moving out of the way and getting fined.

The highway code and the law is quite clear, you can go through a red light if ordered to by a police officer, I would have thought a gesticulating officer behind would have constituted an order, therefore you can plead not guilty on the grounds that the lights where being overridden.

I know the law, and these previous cases, but I would still move forward far enough to let them through.

I wouldn't risk collision with a vehicle going across though, if there wasn't room.

the fault is in the number of cameras on lights and the inflexible way that they apply fines, not a lot to do with safety, quite a lot to do with revenue,

i commute through se london every day and will not as a matter of experience move across any line when the lights are red or mount any kerb,

very rarely will any driver take the chance

You pull far enough forward to let the police car through, and stop.

This should be obvious on the photo.

Police are wise to this situation and will record the registration number to the control room if they activate the camera. Be sure to write to the central ticket ofice explaining the situation if you get flashed, they should soom marry it up.
