vauxhall meriva easytronic transmission fault

my meriva 1.6 life easytronic has been standing for a few weeks went to start other day and wouldnt start rac came out and fitted new starter motor as old one had gone. still nothing eventually started up by going under engine but nothing using key cant get any gars though did diagnosos on computer came up with p1700 transmission fault cant afford to go to vauxhall as already 85 out of pocket for starter motor any ideas please

at a guess from what you describe,its probably an electrical fault. As its an automatic,it will not start unless its in neutral,but the computer has not recognised this.
You have to take it to a garage that specialises in electrical diagnostics(vauxhall probably best) sorry but its going to cost you unless you know someone in the trade.
p.s. how old is the car ?

car is 2004 and i know you have to pay through the nose for vauxhall which is annoying
