(Wed 21:16 24/Jun/09)No rules at all, but personally, I let it have a service with a view to any problems that might arise MOT wise. That way they get sorted before the MOT.

(Wed 21:17 24/Jun/09)Ditto Postdog. Get the service and then the MOT.

(Wed 21:20 24/Jun/09)From the Nationwide Service Centres website:
Ask about Nationwide Autocentre's popular combined "Car Service and MOT test" package. Many of the items covered on the MOT test are also duplicated on our schedules. If, for example, you elect to have your Full Annual Service carried out at the same time as your annual MOT test then we are able to reduce the price of the service giving you a substantial saving.

(Thu 08:03 25/Jun/09)MOT as its a legal requirement, a service isn't

(Thu 12:47 25/Jun/09)there are a lot of combined deals with servicing & MOT, garages desperate for work..shop around

(Thu 21:06 25/Jun/09)I think I see what you are saying. If the brakes are inspected on the mot why pay to have them inspected again when it is serviced? A moot point but a service will not always highlight any problems but an mot will. I think you will find your garage will do the mot first and if it fails then correct any problems when the service is done. eg something like pads close to limit will be noted on the mot, even if not a failure item. Also if failed it makes the retest easier.
