Unmarked Police Vehicles

Can anyone tell me if there are any regulations with regards to the use of unmarked police cars on 'A' roads ?
I have noticed that several roads have signs giving prior warning that these vehicles are in use. Is this a must ? Berkhof (Thu 13:58 25/Jun/09)

another-view		(Thu 13:59 25/Jun/09) I wouldn't have thought so, as you will adjust your actions while the police are there then speed up once you have passed them.
