I had the misfortune of having my car broken in. The passenger side door lock has been prised open using a screw driver I assume. Just wonder how much would it cost to have it sort and is it worth claiming from my insurance?

Think you may need to give some clues...

What kind of car...are parts readily available...is the bodywork damaged.....are you going to have your insurance premiums raised, if you claim ?

It's a Suzuki Swift. The damage left the lock body loose and the bodywork around the lock has widen, looks abit like a tin can being opened.

I'm not sure if it's worth telling my insurance about as my excess is 200 but my NCB is protected.

And I'm not sure is it worth reporting this to the police.
sounds like a new door skin + paint , and a new barrel, off the top of my head 100 for skin 60.00 for barrel + paint and labour.
Check 247 spares, Ebay, put in your Car details, year, colour, you may end up with a different key for one door but its better than the replacement of the paint, lock etc. do not go anywhere near your Insurance it will only cost you in the long run. the slackness of the lock is caused by a U shaped spring clip on the inside of the door.

Thank you for the replies people. The damage is minimal, the lock was working until I attempt to adjust it into position - now I made it worse. I went to a body repair shop today and they quoted me 140. I just ask for the damaged area to be filled and primed and I'll touch it up with paint myself.

I just hope the scum who did this will get whats coming to him.
