I know you can buy your tax disc about 15 days early, but can you start displaying it early? Or do you have to wait until the right date?

What it says on form V11 is:

"A licence comes into force on the day it is taken out *except when it is taken out in advance*, in which case it takes effect from the first day of the following month. The licence must be displayed on the vehicle *from the day it comes into force*."
By the way, you can now buy your tax disc from the 5th day of the month before it is due.

'You can renew your tax any day from the fifth day of the month.'

Thanks guys. I do generally buy my tax disc early, and like you, Chuck, I forget to put it on on the first of the month.
That's a good tip though, to display the old one and the new one so that you've covered every possibilty.
I always buy mine early and stick it in the van, it proves you have a valid licence and you've paid for it....
