Problems with renewing road tax disc

My partner's road tax reminder didn't arrive, I discovered that hadn't got a new log book. It turns out that the DVLA hadn't received the change of owner details, so my partner went to the DVLA office in Manchester and has corrected that.

His road tax disc expires at the end of April, and he took everything issued to him by the DVLA to Post Office and asked for a tax disc for 6 months. When he got home, I realised that the tax disc he's been given runs out at the end of September 2011 - surely that's in 5 months ? Shouldn't the new disc run out at the end of October ? He went back to the Post Office and they've told him the tax disc was correctly issued. I'm confused. Any ideas ?

I work for the Post Office and unless you have the reminder (if it's renewed unsing anything but), we have to issue it from the start of the month.

When did he take it?

You can only renew from the 1st of the next month less than a week before the end of the previous month.
when did he renew?

Sorry, meant to say that we can with the log book, but not earlier than two days before the end of the month. It was issued correctly.
sounds like they have backdated to 01 april 2011, so in all, you have 6 months
"Use the reference number on your V11 reminder or Registration Certificate to renew your tax from the fifth day of the month in which the current tax disc expires."
Which to me says you can renew from the 5th of the month in which it expires

Or: "You can renew your tax up to two calendar months in advance in person or by post at a Post Office® branch that deals with advance applications or a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) local office."

Whiskeysheri - you've solved my problem, thanks. No, he didn't have a reminder because the DVLA didn't know he owned the vehicle. That's been rectified now and a new log book is on it's way. It's his own fault for not checking things properly !
