IF my car has worn tyres which are below the legal limit in the Uk and the i was stopped by a Copper who noticed the tyress were baldy, but i'd mention it to the copper that i was on my way to the garage to get new tyres. WOuld the copper want to see evidence of an appointment, or would he take my word for it and let me be on my way. (no points or fine)

Well, i don't think he'd beleive you at this time on a morning. I think it does depend on the police person sometimes.
At the very least he would have to have evidence of an appointment, 4 bald tyres =12 points on your licence= driving ban or if you are a new driver=retake test..
Depends on 4 things

Firstly if you are a chav in a beat up old fiesta which stinks of ganja then he`ll probably nick you

Secondly if you are a normal looking guy in a decent type of car then he`ll probably let you go

Thirdly if he`s an easy going copper he might let you go on your way regardless of your or your cars appearence

Last but not least, if he`s an out and out bastad of a copper then he`ll nick you regardless of any of the above mentioned
I'll pay more attention to my tyres in future.
Very funny Elvis, made me laugh
It's an offence to drive a car with tyres with insufficient tread, even if you're genuinely going to a garage to replace them.

If, say, you were to buy a secondhand car with illegal tyres, your only options would be to call a tyre company to come and fit new tyres at the point of purchase or pay for a recovery vehicle to convey your car to a garage. Since many tyre firms offer a roadside service at the same price as they charge at their depot, there's no excuse for driving a vehicle with illegal tyres.

Chris
chris, you do come out with $hit at times, get a life man.
You have all fallen for the wind up again.

The new site shows how many posts a user has made, and surprise surprise this is Kevs first post.
we all have a first post panic button. They are not always a wind up :)

I cant see why a police officer would let anyone off as surely the wear on the tyres would have been there a while and obviously the vehicle would have been in use prior to the day it was stopped.

Oh it's a wind up alright. I recognise the style of writing, and the lower case i's
I dont think it is a wind up as kevsun is speaking hypothetically. Not the same style as ''I was caught doing 90 with no licence'. Its a valid question - is it illegal to drive to a tyre shop with an appointment, with bald tyres?. I agree with Chris. Yes it is illegal. This 'with an appointment'' scenario is intended to cover you where your mot has run out, not to drive a dangerous car to the tyre shop to get them replaced.
the owner of the vehicle in the first place should never have let the tyres get that low on the tread
as for being stopped by the police the policeman would be failing in his duty to charge the driver by letting him go with/without a warning
Panic Button, if it's a windup, why are you wasting your time answering it ?
im begining to think panic button is right, there are no replies from kevsun.
^^ norman used a small i there panic.

I always do it and even miss out apostrphes when im in a rush, perhaps im winding you all up? Wish someone would tell me, cos i didnt have a clue! :)

wind up or not, i still say illegal
ELVIS - they're ALL out & out bast*@ds.
Deviation! Come, come, McNoodle. I dont think your view is held by most rational people. who think there are not enough police on the street. How would you feel if you had your neck broken by someone driving around with bald tyres?

Oh God, am I pushing up kevsun's wind-up score?
if it is a wind up then your just adding to the funny side of it
but if its not a wind up then hes getting some replies and others who are reading it get the information as well
b o l l o c k s to the lot of it
