i have a 2000 w reg volvo v70 t5 (classic shape) and am having trouble finding an alternator, i have taken the old one off and ther are no part numbers on it.After a lengthy search there seems to be no one exept volvo who can get me the right one at 375 and they wont give me a part number?????????? which is nice considering the money i have spent with them, surely i have a right to know? if i knew it i could get one for less than half the price and my old one is not able to be reconned.i have dealt with the so called speciallists but they also need the part number, i do now know its 120amp though but i refuse to give in to volvos blackmail tactics

your alternator seems quite new, do you do a lot of miles?

are you sure the alternator has gone?

you can get the bushes replaced generally for about 30 at any good car electricians

that was my first option but it seems the one way pulley has gone and was told it would be better to buy a new/recon unit, and im pretty sure its the alternator as good mechanic friends have given me the advice and are usually right.A few days before it was taken off i had two batterys one was constantly on charge and a fresh battery would last me a few hours if i needed to use it and would not charge in-car.thanks for the advice though.

Hi.
I live in Chesterfield and use a firm called German Swedish & French in Sheffield. Their number in Sheffield is 0114 2617888, or e-mail [email protected] say they have 36 Branches Nationwide.
I got a nearside wheel bearing for my Volvo v70 for just over 60.00 including VAT

thanks marper, i actually live in sheffield and use gsf and it was my first port of call but they only list one and when they ordered it for me it was the wrong one.they did go out of there way for me but still couldnt get me one, thanks for the advice though and the price on the bearing ill need one of those when i eventually get an alternator
Possibly a bosch- if it's this one then at least some bits are available http://www.woodauto.com/Unit.aspx?Man=BOSCH&Re f=0124515019

You may need to do a bit of dismantling to find out exactly what it is, but there'll be numbers somewhere- possibly on the rectifier or brush box. I'd be tempted to take it to a local Bosch agent and ask them if it's one of theirs.

It does appear to be peculiar to a few Volvos, however, and nothing else.......good luck!
