Claiming for a broken windscreen does not cause you to lose your no claims bonus but you will have to pay an excess, usually about 60. Check with your policy or insurance company.
Surely if the stone came off the back of the tipper it's considered to be an unsecure load which makes them responsible.
In reality though you would have needed to treat it as an accident at the time and called the police to stop the tipper as he probably would'nt have known anything about it.
It's unfortunate but you will need to bear the brunt of the cost.
This happened to me in my works van. I overtook the lorry straightaway and got the driver's name. I then wrote off to the company stating that I would contact the police and press charges for their driver having an insecure load unless they sent me a cheque for 96 (the cost of replacing the windscreen) in seven days. Result; one new windscreen. As an act of good faith I wrote a thank you letter including the windscreen reciept
