Is it possible to get your windscreen replaced thru your insurance company if it hasn't got any major chips or any cracks? It's just that my windscreen is quite old and has lots of tiny stone chips all over that show up quite a lot when the sun shines on it (it also has some old repaired chips in).

You could always crack the window yourself and then claim off your insurance. But I would do it somewhere a little discreet.
Do as Richie says - bounce a hammer off it and cliam it was a stone off a tipper lorry that broke it and you didn't get their registration- -you will on;y have to pay an excess of around 50.
Yeah it's not strictly legal but it goes on all the time. I locked my keys in my car once, broke a side window and told the insurance company a flying stone starred it so I had to break it. I paid a 50 excess for a side window that would have cost me 300.

It's not legal and it's probably classed as fraud but the insurance industry are all robbing b'stards anyway so my conscience wasn't unduly boithered!
If it distracts from your driving and they are in your line of sight - a windscreen company will change it in any event and you can still claim it off your insurance - no need to smash it or fraudulently make a claim. Make an honest claim. Take it to Autoglass or similar tell them it distracts you and you think it needs replacing - they will be more than happy to do it.
