Have you tried a strawberry tree. My uncle in Wales has them in his garden and has a lovely crop of strawberries every year.
Yes I have one.
Not really strawberries but you can eat them.
My favourite tree isn't an evergreen but Amelancea is a lovely "small" tree. It has beautiful spring foliage, lovely small white flowers small berries the birds like and gorgeous autumn foliage.
What about a Bay Tree too, though expensive if tall but smells nice and useful.
have fun

One I'd like to recomend to you, wich is a favorite of mine and I think should be grown more is EUCRYPHIA, the variety glutinosa grows to 15ft and has lovely rose-like flowers, it prefers full sun in a sheltered position and only requires prunning to remove any deadwood or damaged shoots.

If its a conifer you want, why not try something unusual like the Japanese umberella pine (sciadoptitys) its very slow growing and will take 50-60 years to reach 30ft or even more unusual, a conifer that was only discovered about 12 years ago in a deep Austrailian gorge and will soon be available in the UK, give it a google for sales info. Good Luck.

Silly me! forgot to give the name of that Ozzy tree- Wollemi Pine.
