would it not have been fair for the government to give the good people a chance to change their mind on Brexit ..Why was an election called after it was made official Britian was leaving ,giving the people no second chance to decide after the way Brexit has been handled .

She need to legitimise the parliament that is going to take Britain out of the EU, and her premiership.

The Good people had a chance to vote Stay, the voted to Leave instead.
What do you not understand?

Leave was to start the next day not 9 months down the line . If there is a small majority then the government has to work harder to get it through so is May banking on higher majority to ease the passage through . she complain the other parties are making it difficult for the government ,excuse me but is that not what we pay them for .
In view of the stated intent of the Lib Dems and the SNP she really did not have much choice other than to call an election in an attempt to obtain a working majority.
If Remain had won, would you be calling for the chance to change our minds?
Of course she changed her mind....she's a woman!
Mrs May has also pencilled in another date in late August to hold a second poll in case some people don't like result of the first one!!

why does this political non news take over bbc1 and bb2 when there's the more important issue of world snooker at hand?

Can't believe the hypocrisy of the woman! When Ms Sturgeon wants a second referendum she's told the time is not right what with Brexit and all but.................... it's OK for a General Election!
splitting the nation after a referendum dictated that was NOT what Scotland wanted, is very different to a call for a general electiom..and Brexit result remains ..regardless of who wins General Election
Ed......she doesn't need to "legitimise Parliament"....she has that already. This is just a cynical move on her part.
She had to change her mind because she needs 2/3rds of parliament on her side to get the Brexit offer through, without it those with more common sense would not let it go!
Islay....she doesn't need to call an Election. Parliament has already spoken on BREXIT and it said YES !
Parliament has already spoken on BREXIT and it said YES !

You mean they carried out the wishes of the majority of the British electorate in the purest democratic and seismic vote this country has ever seen, yes?

Except Miss Abbot, who was a 'ickle bit poorly', bless her!
There is nothing cynical in Mrs May's action - rather it is politically astute.

You have the Lib Dems and the SNP wanting to defy the majority of the people who voted to leave the EU and scupper the process, and you have a Labour party who, as a result if its leader, being completely unelectable.

What the GE will do is increase the Tory majority quite significantly, slap down the undemocratic SNP and Lib Dems, give Labour a pasting and legitimise her position (not that it needed it - even though some people whine about not 'voting' for her to be PM).

Labour should be thanking her - when Labour have taken a pasting I would be surprised if Corbyn didn't fall on his sword, thus paving the way for a new Labour leader that may be able to turn them back into an electable party.
Mikey, Labour and Lib dems can still refuse an offer on Brexit in 2 years time and cause issue that's why she needs 2/3 tory parliament.
Please don't shout its very rude!
No it is never a good idea to allow flip fops all over the place. There is no changing of minds, a majority of folk found the courage to vote for what is right and we are on the way. There was zero reason to call an election after any point so far, and I can't see what calling one now will achieve either.
Islay....not meant to be rude....if it was easy to use italics here on AB, then that is what I would prefer.
I agree with Deskdiary.

I also think it shows a politically astute mind and a steely determination.
